    Sprinter 3500 Deck

Basically my codriver (wife) doesn't want a larger truck. She'll accept a C Truck but not a D. I drive a 26' box truck for a mail contractor so I'm fine with it. Wouldn't an apartment on wheels be great!? LOL. Most of the folks I know that are running d units ( some with class 8 TVAL) say that...

    Sprinter 3500 Deck

Actually if I had a C Unit I'd be able to get a big sleeper but with the Sprinter I'd have to scale down considerably. I am thinking I could build a convertible sleeper in the Sprinter,i.e. with the 31" left of space between the seats (allowing 150" for 3 pallets) I would put in my perm. things...

    Sprinter 3500 Deck

I guess I am trying to get the best of all worlds, space for max loads, comfortable sleeping quarters & still stay under 10,000 gvwr. Years ago I thought a C Unit might be best for us; however there doesn't seem to be any on the market. At least with a 96" sleeper (approx) and about a 12-14' box...

    Sprinter 3500 Deck

Really good point. I had no idea that height was such a big factor. Thanks. I guess the Sprinter motor is little light with the extra weight? I am used to a powerstroke so weight never been a problem. I thought the new 3.0 V-6 would be a little stronger. What % of loads do you get that need a...

    Sprinter 3500 Deck

I concur that the main reason for duallies is for the tires but if you've ever towed a tag along traler with a dually vs a regular, you'll see a vast difference in stabilty. This is really different with a 5th wheel. I wish Sprinter would have done like the old Dodge duallies where they added a...

    Sprinter 3500 Deck

2010 170" WB ext 3500 gvwr is 9990. 2500 170" wb ext is 8550 gvwr. If you install a 12" deck you go from a 76.4 " interior height to 64.4" height for the back 150" )where the length of the deck. Remaining 35" would remain 76.4" Maybe I am wrong but that seems to give you about 1440 lb payload...

    Mileage Accuracy

Company states this is PC Miler software but it sure smells like the "household movers guide"! Sincerely, Big Al

    Mileage Accuracy

I have been using the PC Miler with the Companies I've leased to since the late 90's and have never had any issues with this software. However since we have been with this new company (new to us) all my trips have exceeded the mileage quoted. It's almost always greater than 5%, sometimes upwards...

    Workmans Comp

I am an owner/operator and my company charges about $130. per month for me for workers comp. My question is why this added expense since I am fully covered by Medicare and TriCare for Life. Do the rest of the companies require this? Sincerely, Big Al

gas vs diesel in a van

In addition to about 15-20 % better fuel mileage with the diesel versus gas (depending on conditions i.e. driver, topography etc.) I have found the diesel burns far less fuel at idle than a gas engine. Also a gas seems to really run bad for the first 15-25 miles after an extended idle. Big...

    A discussion from a new EO member….

Actually I believe Roberts Express had a rule in the late 90's "in by 7 am out by 7 pm", perhaps this is where the 12 hour rule came from? Of course they paid deadhead for a move to the next Express Center, which was always less than a 100 miles since they had a mega number of those. Con-Way...

    Automatic Tire Chains

Ice in the parking lot can be challenging; however,I used to carry cans of window de-icer and I used it on the drive side and under the tires. It gives you just enough momentum to get out and it's inexpensive. I used them with my van and have never tried this with a staight truck but I guess it...

    Olive branch mississippi flying j

Good place to stay and there's a neat little local restaurant in town. If you're Retired Military the Navy facility at Millington ( about 25 miles north of Memphis) is a decent place to stay and it's real secure. Big Al Forsyth,MO ( near Branson) Retired Navy

    Driving Etiquitte

I usually drive the speed limit so in the rare occasion I actually pass a 4 wheeler I've noticed that usually within 15 minutes they are coming back around me. I chalk it up as my civic duty because the driver was probably asleep and when they realized that they had been passed by Big Al they...
