Now I'm not sure if expediting is the way to go.

RE: Now I'm not sure if expediting is the way to g In the midst of all this sweetness and joy, my and I decided to ordera brand new, expensive truck of our own. Since then, steel prices have soared, increasing our truck price. Fuel prices have soared, increasing our operating expense. Interest...

    income

I would have to agree with you. Two different drivers with seperate households is not recommended. Even more so if one is not the truck owner. Too many people eating out of the same pot. In most cases for teaming, I would only recommend husband & wife team or same household team. I don't think...

    income

Remember that whether you gross $10,000 or $15,000 a month it doesn't matter except for cash flow. The important number that you want is what you net after all expenses. We have known alot of folks who grossed well over $100,000 a year and went bankrupt. Davekc

    Confessions of an Expediter

We usually run with where we feel it is safe. Not always the posted speed. Outside of Chicago at night, running 55 might get a truck running 70 into your rear end. That is why we view split speed states as revenue programs. Same in Ohio, we run 55 on the two lanes but much closer to 65 on the...

Has a Dispatcher ever said anything rude to you?

RE: Has a Dispatcher ever said anything rude to yo DD you are clearly right. Companies must remember that these are independent contractors. Taking a driver that is an owner operator out of service is illegal. Under that provision you are dictating a work order which would give them a employee...

Has a Dispatcher ever said anything rude to you?

RE: Has a Dispatcher ever said anything rude to yo Professionalism has to be on both sides of the fence. One bad dispatcher usually is not a reflection of a whole organization. The majority have never been on the road and know very little about what we do. There are exceptions, but very few...

    Super D

I can't see why they wouldn't unless there is some liability issues with insurance. They might think you will add another and be a complete double. That in itself will effect the insurance rate. I will have to ask around and see if that is an issue. Davekc

How to calculate Cost Per Mile?

When figuring your cost per mile remember to have three figures. The first is what it costs to move your truck any distance The second is that number with what your given wage is. (What are you paying yourself) And the third is your business profit. Why have a truck (which is a business) and not...

Now I'm not sure if expediting is the way to go.

RE: Now I'm not sure if expediting is the way to g Is this industry still growing and is there enough frieght to handle more drivers? Time and time again I read that you should ask questions when considering going this route. I am taking your advise. Sylvester Clearly there is more freight...

    How long do shocks last?

Once a year. For the folks who have shocks on their sleeper, I would change those as well. Changing all of them is very inexpensive for what you get in return. Davekc

Just paid $1.81 for diesel today!

Fuel use to be considerably higher in Fl than Ga. On our way home this time we were surprised that there was only a few cents difference between these states. That is comparing the prices at the J in Brunswick Ga to St Augustine, Fl. Talk about price manipulation. Davekc

Now I'm not sure if expediting is the way to go.

RE: Now I'm not sure if expediting is the way to g Excellent response Tom. I think that is the current state of expediting. The current driver shortage will continue in expediting as well as general line haul. Currently, companies are starting to pay for sins of the past as efforts to recruit...

Has a Dispatcher ever said anything rude to you?

RE: Has a Dispatcher ever said anything rude to yo All of the companies that have less than desirable dispatchers had better wake up. The issue of driver shortages is starting to creep into this picture. The ones that master a good relationship with their drivers will be the ones who succeed...

    Confessions of an Expediter

It has become the US autobahn. 10,20,70,80, and 65 kind of are the same. 77 is the same once you leave OH. We usually run at the posted speed and sometimes slower. The bigger the rear bumper the better. Reminds me of Hillary's new bumper sticker that says "RUN,RUN,RUN. The democrats put it on...

    DIS-Orientation - finalized

What company is this? I agree that maybe more information could be distributed at orientation on a companies freight lanes. Not likely to see the light of day though because they want to cover as much freight as possible. Your profitability in most cases is not their first priority. Davekc

COE class 8 truck conversion to expedite truck

Mike cop did this with an international. I think you could go to a 26 foot box and keep the overall length at 40 feet. It would be ok on a straight truck, but as mentioned on a earlier post, not recommended for pulling a small trailer. Davekc
