    Logo color

At the time that FedEx bought TNT, whose logo was also orange, the corporate decision was made to return all of the FedEx operating companies to the original colors, purple and orange. The change program is to brand all new equipment but not immediately bear the expense of doing everything at...

    Accept Load Calculator

You are missing so many variables that I can not envision anyone taking the time to use this. I entered a $1000 load from St Louis, MO to Detroit, Mi with a 41 mile deadhead. Your formula showed me having a profit of $932. That would be great if fuel was free, the vehicle had no operating or...

Tax question for non married team drivers

Your friendship with your future business partner may lead you to think your entry into the trucking business is no big deal, but it is. You would be best served by seeking legal and accounting advice, particularly if you think you may be successful enough to expand your business into a fleet...

    I Need Another Perspective

According to your expressed policy, the Driver is apparently responsible to ensure the freight and BOL match the records you received from the shipper. The driver should have ensured that the freight, not just the BOL, matches the commodity for which the carrier was hired. You mentioned the...

§390.6 of the FMCSR states, in part: (a) Prohibition. (1) a motor carrier, shipper, receiver, or transportation intermediary, including their respective agents, officers or representatives may not coerce a driver of a commercial motor vehicle to operate such vehicle in violation of…[numerous...

    Portable Gas tank

I should have reread the OP and not assume you were in a cargo van; my bad. As said by bigstickjr, the belly box confinement is a good choice. It should cause you no problems with regulation compliance.

    Portable Gas tank

It just occurred to me that there may be a way to plumb a fuel line into your gas tank. Then you could connect a flexible fuel line, with a proper fitting, to your generator. Any fuel line may not be proximate to your exhaust system. Perhaps someone here has done this and could advise you.

    Portable Gas tank

I assume you're in a cargo van now so google the reference I gave you and it will explain how an external fuel tank may not extend outside the body of a CMV. These regulations are written for CMVs, so they do not apply tp you if you are in a van and don't haul hazmat. An external fuel tank on...

    Portable Gas tank

Lookup and read section 393.65 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR). It discusses fuel tank securement and does nor specifically mention portable fuel tanks. Regardless of the vehicle size you operate, you must be conscious of any commodity you are carrying along with the...

By the way, Joshua, what size truck do you have in mind to enter the world of expediting, Cargo Van, Tractor/trailer or something in between.?

    Looking to Become an O/O

Well Joshua, that would qualify you as a business owner. You used the proper term, business because, one truck or a hundred, you must treat your involvement as a business before you even buy a truck. Whether you need to share it with a banker or other support, you should consider developing a...

    Looking to Become an O/O

Joshua, You ask a very broad question that can't be answered without a novella sized response. Do you want to be a Motor Carrier with a fleet of trucks driven by company drivers. or a Motor Carrier with a gaggle of Fleet Owners , or do you want to buy a fleet of one or more trucks and lease on...

    Cargo Vans and ELDs

Your flammable placard should have a 1/2" white border. I found the best way to fasten a paper placard was to use white electricians tape. (Home Depot, Lowes) It is weather resistant and leaves no residue when removed. With adhesive backed placards, I cut about a 1/2 - 3/4" border off the...

    Cargo Vans and ELDs

Also be aware that a placard may not be attached within three inches of any written words or graphics and they must have the placard wording on a horizontal plane. The placard must be mounted vertically so if they are attached to the top surface of a cargo van hood they would not be in...

    DOT physical for sprinter

xmudman, you are correct. I made a reasonable assumption in the situation of coastline that he/she was unable to pass a DOT inspection, could not get a waiver and had eyes on one of the well known companies of which I am aware. I also erred in my comment about "reputable" companies. I had no...

    DOT physical for sprinter

A CDL holding driver that fails a DOT physical with one carrier is not likely to get a non-CDL driver role with any of the reputable carriers. Consider the liability issue if your malady created an adverse situation for you, the public, the carrier or its customer's freight.

Cargo Van Looking to become a fleet owner

Dubs, Many, if not most, of the members here are professional truck drivers who own their own businesses. Even a driver for an owner has a business for which a schedule C must be filed with their tax returns in order to take advantage of the many business related deductions. We each share a...

    Texas Style Sleeper

This topic piques my interest because, as a former safety related inspector, I observed many unsafe issues external, but proximate, to a sleeper compartment. First of all, regarding the 7 year old comments above, There is no mention of sleepers or sleeper compartments in the Federal Motor...
