Experienced drivers;
I was hoping that some of you could express your feelings on your choice of van. I am looking at why, perhaps, you chose a Sprinter over a 1 ton Ford or GM product - and how happy you have been with your decision. There seems to be some confusion for some newbies over...
AKJarHead;
I do not know of any "Expedite" companies that have a separate flatbed division. I worked for one company that had a couple of customers that utilized flatbeds. This was some years ago. I recruited a couple of flatbed straight truck owner operators to fill their needs. Just...

May I suggest that you contact the carriers individually that advertise on EO. Many will have fleet owners seeking drivers for their their vehicles. You could work on getting qualified for driving for such a fleet owner and drive for a fleet owner.
This will better help you...

I think that it is fairly common within the entire trucking industry that pickup and delivery times can, and will, be changed by the shippers and consignees on short notice. Add in a third party and communications break down even further. I'm sure that most shippers and consignees don't...
Pete;
For the trips you did, some carriers would have paid 2067 (miles) X $1.20 (rate) plus fuel surcharge (24%) = $3,075.70.
Keep in mind rates and fuel surcharges vary from company to company.
Hope this helps.

Pete;
Place an ad in the free classifieds section of Expeditersonline for driver needed. It's quite simple and truely effective!

There are other carriers that allow their contractors to work under their own Authority in addition to the three that DaveKC listed. You would need to ask each carrier you are interested in. Be aware of and abide by, any non-compete clauses in your (lease or broker) agreements...
Jeffery;
I would imagine that your choice of carriers will be limited to the very large carriers, like Panther, Fed-Ex Custom Critical or Tri-State. Another option would be to seek out any small Expediters located in Utah by phonebook.

I'm sure the carrier you leased onto provided a copy of the "Green Safety Regs Handbook" (see 49CFR, Part 382). This is the material that contains the actual DOT Regulations. Along with that book, you most likely received a "Contractor or Driver" Manual from that carrier. The...
Random Testing
To All;
Random testing is mandated by the DOT. Carriers perform the random testing (along with the other types - reasonable suspicion, post accident, pre employment, etc...) because the carrier is ultimately responsible for the safety of the vehicle.
In many years of...
RE: Would a 16ft to 20 Ft Cube van work Expediting
Great points on cube vans. Keep in mind that most cube vans are 1 ton vans with a portion of the thin sheet metal "cut-away". A "box" is attached to the frame in lieu of the removed sheet metal. The box is much heavier than the metal...
Dear Fleet Owners and Drivers for Fleet Owners;
Do yourselves a favor and always use a written contract that specifically details who is responsible for ALL aspects of the operation, maintenance, pay, accidents, etc of the vehicle between yourselves.
Have the contract reviewed by an attorney...
Suds;
This is a great question. It could have been posted in the "Ask the Recruiter" forum also.
Reality of recruiting a driver or owner-operator:
The trucking industry places an average cost of $5,500 per recruit
Why so much?
*Trucking company places half-page ad, one issue, in a...
This has been a very flat year for the trucking industry, especially expediting. I've noticed many posts in many of the forums, discussing the lack of freight, why companies are adding more vehicles, and the need for carriers to find more loads for trucks.
Like any other industry, we are...

First, hope all is well.
The saying goes, if life hands you lemons, make lemonade.
When Fed-EX CC customer hands you garlic, paprika and pepper, make goulash! or better yet, Chicken Paprikas!

The highest compliment would be to be called a "PROFESSIONAL" driver!, with the meaning that of a person who operates a truck with highest professionalism.
Just my two cents.

Florida;
I would suggest contacting Landstar to see if any of their agencies have the type of position you are seeking. I can't think of any other (Expedite) companies that would have enough Intra-Florida freight to keep you busy.
Perhaps you could search for companies in "SaferSys" with the...

The only thing that is "for sure" about Expediting is the uncertainty of when your next load will be, and where it will take you! Some days you will do locals, some days medium distance and yet others - cross country.
Keep in mind that no company is able to be the "perfect travel...
