Our Freightliner Nightmare Continues. Your Opinions, Please.

A little over a week ago, at about the 5,000-mile mark after the installation of the gold-plated remanufactured MBE 900 engine in our 2006 Sterling (a Daimler/Freightliner product), we went in to a TA to have the oil changed. The first thing the tech did was go right to the oil pan to drop the...

    36 Years Ago Today.......

......the Blizzard of '77 started. I was a fifth-grader, growing up in a small town in Western New York. Never saw so much snow before or since. Got the unique lake effects from both Erie and Ontario. School until late July that year, and neighbors pulling together doing what good neighbors...

So you are, or want to be an Owner-Operator.....Are You Prepared?

Lots to ponder there, Moose. Between our monthly truck payment (our reserves, pre-engine replacement, were almost enough to pay the truck off-glad we didn't pull that trigger) and our averaged monthly repair before the engine replacement, were more than a new truck payment. That new truck...

Wait.......you have to buy a hot dog to get the ketchup? Thank you, and the same to you two.

So you are, or want to be an Owner-Operator.....Are You Prepared?

My beautiful bride and I drive a 2006 Sterling with a Merecedes MBE 900/926 engine. Beginning in the middle of last year, we began having problems with oil leaks. Having spent loads of dough having head and valve cover gaskets replaced, the problem kept resurfacing. In early December, we also...

Have to live close to Company?

Wife having no experience is a problem for some, but not all. FedEx, I believe, will allow her to team with you if she has the proper license.

What is the average weight of a straight truck load?

Our truck is registered at 48k, but, like Jimby's can only scale 46k (bridge formula). We're right around 26k empty, most we've ever pushed is 43k loaded. Thursday's load was 600#. Yesterday was 11,000 (a forklift). Monday is 10,900 (paper). FWIW, heavier it is, the more we get.

So, would it be safe to say that I was right? FWIW, Deville is clearly the exception.

Strange insurance question. What's your opinion. My front wheel fell off

Is this thread a yank? I'm in the very lengthy process of my engine being replaced. I maintained it painstakingly. Why would any insurance company be involved in paying for it? Some of the answers here have left me scratching my head....and worse.....

    Rebuilding Detroit

I read an article in the Free Press not long ago about the money problems in the D (I know, shocker). One of the comments shocked me, though. The poster mentioned that there's a museum or gallery in Detroit containing over a billion dollars worth of artwork, and that the building AND the artwork...

    Performance Monitoring

Interested to know what you find out. When the units first came out, ours used to reset every Monday at 2000 hours. Now, it's completely random, but definitely much more random than yours, Jim. Maybe a call to Tom in QC in the morning?

    ST team need a home

Where do they live? Will they be buying a truck? What kind(equipment)? How often do they need to be home? Obviously, we're with FedEx. We've done well with them, both annual income and per-all-miles rates. We're in a surface truck (read=non-White Glove) with a liftgate, both HM endorsements...

    Leasing to company o/o??

I should probably clarify one thing.....my knowledge of the van segment is limited to what I read here. My bride and I also have Class A licenses, but have only ever driven a straight truck, and only as a team. I believe that everyone else that responded to both of your threads, except Dave...

    Leasing to company o/o??

Almost everywhere in this industry segment, you'll be self-employed, and therefore, responsible for your own health insurance. Regarding that, why not get coverage from the VA? Or are there family members that you have to cover? If that's the case, then you can buy it yourself. There are several...

    Turbo Tax.

I would use TurboTax Home & Business, unless you were incorporated, or operate a Limited Liability COMPANY, that elects to be taxed as a corporation, if I were in your shoes. In the latter case, I would use Turbo Tax Basic, then TurboTax Business. And yes, I capitalized Company on purpose.
