If there was a cover over that opening, I’d put one on again. There’d be a place for the bolts. You can make one out of an old license plate, or similar piece of scrap. Unless the part is pretty cheap at Freightliner. Unlikely.

I’m not as qualified to answer, but I personally wouldn’t worry. Not on that truck. A Sprinter, with much thinner/ lighter duty parts, would have to be thoroughly inspected.

Probably have. Driveshaft down. Transmission down. Slide off,pray, inspect shaft, reinstall. Since trans is out, you might as well replace the clutch. A good shop I’d think 7 or 8 hours.Including clutch replacement.

I don’t have a degree in greaseness, but I’d say yes.
