    Hello to Everyone

The "problem" we ran into when looking for prospective carriers, was our lack of recent (w/i last 2 years) driving experience. We really only had two choices, FedEx and Panther (seems to be an insurance requirement). Everyone else wanted at least 6 months recent over-the-road experience. FedEx...

    Shoes, Other Safety Equipment

As we get closer to heading out on the road, we are busy compiling a list of things to bring with us. Today, the question of shoes (boots?) came up. What type of shoes would you recommend? I do not know if steel toed boots are required, or whether that is left up to the driver. We will be...

    Expediter family stranded

Used to go with my dad in his semi many times when I was 12 and older (even younger when he had a straight truck.) Different world today I suppose. Back then, didn't really worry about insurance or if someone was going to sue. Saw many things I could have never seen in a classroom. Good...

    Unusual Names

There was a student at a high school I subbed at about 10 years ago whose name, if spelled out would most likely get me banned. Pronounced Shhh-theed. (Like a "shush" in first syllable and with a long "E" sound in last syllable) Spelled like you can imagine. Have no idea what his parents were...

    Discrimination endorsed

If we could ever get this in place (only individual citizens can give money to candidates, and limit the amount to a set figure), most of our political problems would be solved. I just don't see it happening, and that is truly a tragedy for America.

    My time is comming...

Rob, Good luck to you! We (my wife and I) are in the same boat as you, having no experience, and with few choices with respect to carriers. We are going with FedEx, teaming in a D straight truck. Hope we are both successful! We'll be joining you out on the road before too long.

Late to the FedEx \ TVAL Party?

Thanks to everyone for their replies and kind words of encouragement. As everyone has to start somewhere, we'll most likely get ours at FedEx. Time will tell how this all works out. For the time being, we see no real reason to abandon our original plans as of yet. We will move forward with our...

Late to the FedEx \ TVAL Party?

My wife and I have been following the recent series of forum posts concerning the current state (the perceived state, at least) of the FedEx TVAL/WG/flat rate "situation" with some interest. Now we have yet to haul our first load of expedite freight, in fact, we've not even made it to...

    Finally Getting Started!

Well, it look like, if nothing really out of the ordinary crops up, we'll be headed to orientation the second week or so of August!:D Been a long time in the works, but looks like we've just about got everything in place. Thanks to everyone for the help and suggestions over the (almost) last...

    Report Coming..Pryor took $20 Grand

At this point, I doubt this will be the last allegation to rear its ugly head. Would not be surprised to see this cost the AD and possibly even the president their jobs. (Gee, not Obama - sorry Chef ) And ya know, we (as the OSU / college football loving public in general) share some of...

Weiner says.. wait, that WAS me!

Wow. Won't resign? Good thing he doesn't coach football.

Best mobile Internet options for expediters

We just bought a Xoom tablet from Verizon. It is can act as a mobile hotspot and we are trying the 10Gb / mo. Data plan. So far so good. Upgradable to the 4G LTE network. Also Wi-Fi capable so we don't have to burn the wireless minutes. Already have a Droid X, and it can act as a hotspot also...

Student Debt Edges Closer to $ 1 Ttrillion Dollars

Chef, yes we are/were but will be joining you on the road before too long. Too much politics in education. We were at a small public k-12 charter school. Posted with my Droid EO Forum App

Student Debt Edges Closer to $ 1 Ttrillion Dollars

Unfortunately, my three will be saddled with what would equate to a fairly sizable mortgage payment upon graduation in a few years. They are all "paying" their way through school with a combination of loans, work study, grants and scholarships. Not really sure how it will all pan out for them.

    OSU and Jim Tressel

Well there goes my Fall Saturday afternoons! :( Sadly, this will never happen. They may fire Tressel, but the incentive to "bend the rules" to win will still be there for the next coach. When it comes right down to it, too much money. The idea of amateur "Student Athletes" seems to have passed.

    OSU and Jim Tressel

As with most things, you'll often find the level of corruption (whether intentional or not) is directly related to the amount of money involved. And there is an enormous amount of money involved with college sports. I hope this all resolves itself, but we'll never really know the whole story. I...

    OSU and Jim Tressel

I think the good and positive influences Tressel has had on the lives of his players would far out weight the negatives.

    Ohio CDL / HazMat Process

Thank you! I figure about $600 for me alone to get the Class B CDL with HazMat. That includes all the BMV, TSA, Class and testing fees, and gas to and from the class and testing sites. Throw in the cost of the Passport ($140) and the DOT physical ($20 co-pay on our insurance) plus gas to and...
