"We need to spread the word that gangs of roving cargo vans are everywhere waiting to pick up straight truck freight for lower rates!" I love it!

    C/V's Dead?

I like that, gangs of roving cargo vans. I can see myself sporting a Marlon Brando leather hat (Wild Ones) and my leather Eldridge Cleaver pants and gloves ( sorry Cheri, I know I promised years ago I'd stop with the Black Panther references) and terrorizing unsuspecting shippers. Where do I...

Can't those toll collectors read English. All of my U.S. Federal Reserve Notes clearly state: THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE

    C/V's Dead?

September is when French auto giant Peugeot unveils the Le Personnes Mouton LCV (large capacity van) in the United States. This van will not only be the death of the American slop bucket, but it will also be a Sprinter killer. With standard features like a fuel sipping 290 HP, high torque, V-6...

Golfournut, I asked for Turtle's help in posting that. If you would like a more legible copy send me a p.m. with your e-mail address and I will reply with a PDF that is easier to read.

Thank you Turtle for posting that for me. It is some what difficult to read and the weights still conflict with what I remember from then. I am more confused now than I was 24 hours ago. I am also older now than I was 24 hours ago. Good thing a drive a van. Ban the van. Eat high fiber...

    Dot regulations

Signage prior to scales in Wisconsin state: All trucks over 4 tons must weigh at weigh station. The key words here are trucks and 4 tons.I am but a lowly ignorant van driver. The word trucks is not a part of my every day vocabulary. What exactly is a truck? I own a Chevrolet cargo van. Not...

    C/V's Dead?

Well it's about time! I started the Ban The Van movement several years ago and it is great to see my efforts finally paying off. The consensus among the recruiters I have talked with is the cargo van is on life support and will be pronounced dead no later than September, 2011. BAN THE VAN

PRP program? Pee Repeatedly Please? I guess the word "please" is not often used in the Navy so I'm at a loss for PRP. Regardless, isn't it better to be green, um, yellow, and donate your urine to a good cause rather than flush it down the toilet or leave a puddle in a truck stop parking lot.

    Lights on for safety ?

Typical ex-pat Canadian response! My 1998 Chevy had the DRLs as part of the headlight system. The DRLs operated at 80% of full headlight illumination and were always on unless the switch for the headlights was on. I installed a toggle switch so I could control it. My 2004 Chevy has the...

Golfornut I found the following attachment in an old U.S.A. Truckers Guide I had on my bookshelf. It supports your position of the 80,000 pound gross prior to The Surface Transportation Act of 1982 and makes me question my memory. But I still insist I ran MN, ND, SD, WI, IL, MI, KS, MO, IN...

48 footers were legal nationally in 1979 but at 96" width. 102" wide did not come about until 1982. I hauled pulp logs in Minnesota prior to 1982. Minnesota granted an exemption to the 73,280 weight limit to carriers with intrastate agriculture authority allowing them to gross 80,000. This...

    Trucking historical tid bits

I agree with Creacher. I started in trucking in 1977 and the federal gross weight was 73,280. In 1982 it was bumped up to 80,000 with a few states that held on at 73,280. Missouri and Illinois come to mind as hold out states.
