    Ron Paul: Befriend Iran.....

I don't think there is any question that if you are friends with someone, that they and you are less likely to go to war against each other.

Give The People The Right To...

The thought of being both seems rather appealing, though. :D

    The last two seats

I'd have left in a heartbeat. An entire audience wearing blue Oxford button downs would be equally unsettling, as would an entire audience of tutu wearing little girls. A theater filled with nothing but tattooed biker doods clearly indicates an orchestrated, unusual event, one that I'm not part of.

    Gas stations?

It wouldn't make any difference to me, as I use diesel in my Sprinter. But, if I used gas, I'd go to a gas station that was a retailer of Top Tier gasolines, which greatly exceeds the minimum standards for detergent additives.

    Panther driver to the rescue!!!

Indeed. He may very well be the only trucker ever to tell a State Trooper that he was tired, and not be put OOS.

    My Rant

That's my point - there are places where multiple languages don't matter, and places where they do. In places where they do matter, it's reasonable and proper to require a common language, whatever that might be. But according to you, the mere presence of multiple languages will get people...

    My Rant

Incidentally, the newly crowned Miss World, crowned in London and one of 133 contestants, is from Venezuela and speaks Spanish. Oh, the horror. Thank God no one died during the pageant because of a language barrier.

    My Rant

Yes, it's worth that. Happy now? I've heard dire warnings yelled out in many languages, including the language of canines and rattlesnakes, and I immediately knew the importance, of not the actual words, of the warning. It is usually in the tone, rather than the language, that's important.

    My Rant

I've been into several businesses where multiple languages were spoken. Whataburger in Anywhere, TX is a good example. I heard both Spanish and English being spoken. It seemed safe enough. I've been in many a Chinese restaurant where both Chinese and English were spoken. No one got hurt. Are...

    My Rant

If that's true, then the number of English-speaking people here should have nothing to do with it, either. But I bring up the point because many speakers of English, especially Americans, are quite arrogant about it and think that it's up to others to learn English, and think the notion that...

    My Rant

Yeah, except the Spanish did it by removing any notion of liberty of self, and did it at the point of a gun - learn Spanish or die. Spanish conquest in the New World was driven by the three Gs: Gold, Glory, and God. In their drive to gather riches and convert the locals to Catholicism, Columbus...

    My Rant

Well, I am more or less saying that the white people of Texas are wrong, and am advocating righting that wrong, but I never mentioned giving Texas back to the natives. This discussion is about languages and the mandating the use thereof, not redrawing political borders. For a really long time...

    November Banter and Location

Yes is it packed. These people need to take these bobtails home or something. Was gonna park behind the shop but couldn't get a good WiFi signal, so I'm right behind the crossdock on the northern fence line snuggled in between two bobtails.

    My Rant

It's not really a case of appeasement as much as it is the reality. The reason so many products have dual language printing is simply because of the sheer numbers of Spanish speaking (and Mexican speaking) people in this country. If Italians were here in the same numbers instead of Mexicans...

    Dropping BOL's

I'd say we do need some clarification, then. In orientation (2 months ago for me) they told us that since no one would be in payroll on the weekends, and that they pretty much scatter at 5 PM during the week, that the black mailbox was to be used, and they gave us envelopes specifically for that...

    Dropping BOL's

Sure. I've been there a couple of times at night and on the weekends, so I've used the mailbox. Just put them in an envelope to keep them together.

When I go to Quebec I speak English. I can empathize with someone wanting to speak their native language, especially if others are speaking it to them.

    Monthly Maintenance Report

Stuck. I haven't yet. I need to be where there is a good WiFi signal (like at the yard) and have the motivation to check it out.

    My Rant

Of coure the Rant rule applies in the soapbox. Just because you call something a "rant" doesn't make it one, anymore than someone posting a rant and then claiming it's not doesn't make it any less of a rant. It has to fit the criteria for being a rant.
