Study links Parkinson's disease to industrial solvent

"Research to date suggests a mix of genetic and environmental factors may be responsible. A link has previously been made with pesticide use." But we're gonna put all that aside, because we're more interested in a solvent link. "The researchers from institutes in the US, Canada, Germany and...

    Paterno should be canned.

He's on "indefinite and paid administrative leave". Definitely wasn't on the sidelines in Saturday's game. He will almost certainly be fired, as they're looking to get rid of anyone who was connected with this in anyway. Why he hasn't already been fired may be due to what his role on the team...

    Roadside assistance

I've been towed in Texas twice, one time loaded, one time empty. I've been towed twice in Mississippi, once in Georgia, once in Kentucky, twice in Michigan, all empty. Once in Canada while loaded. They balked once in Texas and once in Georgia upon hearing the word "Freightliner", so I've learned...

    Christmas layaways

Clearly, Schumer has never put anything on layaway, or even read a layaway contract. I've never put anything on layaway, but I know how they work. You pay a $5 fee to open the layaway account, put down a percentage of the item(s) as a down payment, and then pay it off over a specified time with...

    Roadside assistance

From AAA's terms of service: Vehicle Eligible For Service Unloaded commercial and rental vehicles with no more than four wheels and a standard pickup bed will be entitled to all services, excluding taxis and limos. As for alternative suggestions, no, I don't. I have AAA Plus, but I'm in a...

    Paterno should be canned.

Notice that the owner of the McDonald's, Judson Pickard, and Joe Paterno, the head coach of Penn State, both have the same initials. JP. Coincidence? The Pickard states the blatantly obvious, "I'm taking this matter very seriously and fully cooperating with authorities in their investigation."...

    Paterno should be canned.

All good questions. The other day on XM radio several former players, many who went on to pro ball, were interviewed about Sandusky, and all stated unequivocally that they never saw or even heard of any hint of anything inappropriate. That could mean nothing, or that he's actually innocent, or...

anyone ask what load is paying, 1st?

The Turtle giveth, and the Turtle taketh away. :D I figured, since I was gonna bookend my post with your wisdom, it was best to show the depth and breadth of that wisdom, in order to present a more accurate picture. :D

    November Banter and Location

Three or four years from now when we read the story of how the Indiana Skank Lizard mysteriously migrated to North Carolina, where it has no natural predators or long winters to control its numbers, has completely overrun the Southeastern United States, we'll know. We'll know. :D

    Paterno should be canned.

Well, OK, but after a 3-year investigation, the PA Attorney General disagrees with you. Yes, people can and do satisfy their need to be part of something larger than themselves in many ways, from OWS to "We too are Load 1" to the VFW and the UAW. But to imply that rooting for sports teams...

anyone ask what load is paying, 1st?

One thing this thread (and a few other recent threads) has done, finally, is give those outside looking in a more honest and bigger picture of Load 1. Some have said we should never air our dirty laundry in public. Well, that's dishonest. The same cheerleaders here would absolutely not accept...

    Jacksonville Fl to Los Angeles

That's because it doesn't need correcting. It's a typo with a double meaning. We all "get" the joke. Depends. Miami, for example, has more than it's fair share of both. But there are plenty of tools. Indeed.

    Question on yearly net income.

Yeah, that's about right, but the low end is probably $50,000 rather than $40,000. If you figure an average of 1000 miles a week, and you are out for 46 weeks a year, at a dollar a mile that's $46,000. More or less miles, and more or less time out, and that'll give you a good starting point...

I admit I've always been puzzled how people can say, "I didn't do "THAT" because I was too busy" as if to imply somehow that "THAT" wasn't also their job. It's akin to saying, "I was too busy doing my job to do my job." That cracks me up. :D

    Maximum amount of dead miles

Paid DH at Panther is roughly ¼ of a paid loaded mile, so that's how I figured it when I was there. If I had 100 paid DH miles, I counted it as 75 DH miles (uncompensated miles). I did that in order to get a more accurate figure of uncompensated miles versus paid loaded miles for my overall DH...

    Honeymoon is over???

On the "0 SKIDS 0 WEIGHT" issue, it's really and truly not dirty pool by the shipper or a typical NLMI manuever, as it happens with many 3PL loads other than NLM. The most common reason for it is the shipper knows they are shipping something out, usually parts they are currently building or are...

Yes it is. I'm in Rockford, just north of Grand Rapids. Snowed like crazy all the way up here. Roads were covered or semi-covered most of the way from Battle Creek, but still, the fine folks of western Michigan appear to have never seen snow before. Constant 25-35 MPH and constantly puttin' on...
