When I was involved in church charities we did both at the same time. It does little good to give handouts and strip man of his dignity. It does far more good to hold a hand out and assist man in standing on his own two feet. Yes, HIRING someone to work IS better than a handout. Gawdy or not...

I guess it is in how you look at it. You can hand out charity, which for the most part does little LONG TERM good, OR, you can hire someone to work. Like those who made that "touchdown" statue. They at least EARNED a wage doing that. Which is better for man? A hand out or a job? It matters not...

Yeah, they have to tax us any way they can. You can call it a "fee" for a government service, I just call it another tax. We already pay enough for government. I like that "homecoming tax" you have to pay to get back into the country.
