    60/40?/fair?

I think Turtle has a valid point with regards to detention time IF it is looked at just by itself. In some owners cases, they actually should. I do take a percentage, but I look at is as a issue of balance. The drivers time is clearly being used, and both are denied a opportunity, perceived or...

    Injury Liability

I am not sure about "In the box", but I am aware of two owners getting sued with liftgate injuries and lost over the past year. So yes, it can happen. One but not limited to one of the many reasons I no longer have liftgates on my trucks. I personally think they make better summertime...

    60/40?/fair?

Totally agree. Our folks make out pretty well. Pretty much the reason we don't have a ton of turnover. But, "you can't give the farm away" either. You have to have a win-win for everyone involved.

    60/40?/fair?

PJJJJJ good post and like the analogy According to some, being that 8.00 an hour cashier entitles them to partial ownership of the store if it has a busy day. After all, they are doing all the work.

In your opinion who are the 5 largest expedite carriers?

I'm going to agree with Dave, because rich fleet owners have time to think about things like this. Well, when they're not counting their money Takes a lot of work to wade through and count the trillions.:D

    60/40?/fair?

Vinnie has it right. That is why I post that info for the benefit of the new or maybe just the ill informed. A whole lot of things go in the mix. It isn't as cut and dry as some may have been lead to believe. When things are booming, the driver is benefiting as well aren't they? Unless of...

In your opinion who are the 5 largest expedite carriers?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In no particular order Fed EX CC Landstar Panther Tri State Express 1 and maybe Dynamex. Much of their stuff is courier in many markets rather than expedite. hard to tell on them.

I think you are missing the BIGGER picture. I don't want to imply that fleet owners aren't making money, but you are showing a picture perfect world that isn't there. Using YOUR numbers, you think that the truck is averaging 12,000 each month. For many, that isn't the case. What about months...

    American Axle / GM strike

They were on strike at the Buffalo, NY plant, but we had two loads from there last week. No real issues other than they escort you back to the plant. Pretty decent loads to AL.

Why do people get into this Business and take off 25% of the year?

Hmmmmm, I've rethunk my position on what fleet owners make. Its not trillions, I am reducining you to...... billions. I knew you would come around eventually:D

    Fleet owner observation

The EXACT formula has already been provided. This link is provided by OOIDA on a lease deal that can be reformulated with a purchase. Take your invested dollars over a determined time and subtract your appropriate costs. One can use their own numbers or historical data provided from a carrier or...

    Fleet owner observation

Always appreciate the kind words. That is exactly why myself, Terry and others do the workshops and other events. If one person comes away with something that makes them a better driver, owner operator, or fleet owner, then it is worth it. We have benefited greatly from the industry over the...

    Fleet owner observation

Hey Danny, Appreciate the thoughts. If I made it too long, the original concept might get a little lost. From an investment strategy, I do subscribed to the Dave Ramsey/Howard clark/Bruce Williams/Jim Kramer theories. I take a little from each one and apply it it to my own situation. As...

    What is Cheap Freight, Really?

The minute a load is time defined, I view and charge as a expedited load. On LTL loads, I give a projected day they will get it, but that is it. Exclusive use in our industry is slowly shrinking as Charles posted. That is why you see in some instances 2 NLM expedite loads go on the same...

    Fleet owner observation

The original post wasnt an insult to davekc, but a question why a man with his obvious success and experience would even feel the need to clarify the position of fleet owner, when fleet owners are the minority that the majority will never aspire to nor really understand no matter how many times...

    Fleet owner observation

I will try to answer parts of certain posts to clarify the purpose of why I thought my personal observation was warranted. I felt it was necessary based on some recent posts to clear some of the misconceptions of what a fleet owner actually does. "Self serving"? Absolutely, if it brings a...
