    Lift Axle????

We did one several years with Rush in southern Indiana. It was about the same price as Linders and it had new tires. Installation was one day. Hpe that helps.

    Independent Contractor or?

I don't know Phil.....some might take offense to that? But seriously, if a fleet owner is looking at this, they really need to consult an attorney with a background in transportation. That doesn't mean a bookkeeper, tax preparer, or something else. Folks that are paying fuel, benefits...

    Switching from Indy to Leased

The biggest issue facing strictly independent operators is the availibilty of quality freight in which they rely on other carriers for their loads. You likely would be better served to lease to a carrier in which you can do both. We are with Panther and it has been very beneficial. There are a...

Short loads are they worth it?

I do agree on the first out. In the current turbulent economy, the carriers that can cover ALL of the freight rather than part of it are the ones that are staying busy.

Short loads are they worth it?

There has to be a balance of servicing the customer and remaining profitable at the same time.

Short loads are they worth it?

Well...if they strategically make sense, then yes. If they are before noon, they are certainly considered. It just depends. What we won't do is waste a whole day on one. Remember, "Businessman first, driver second"

    Magical Mystery F.S.C.

That is the alternative. .44 or .28 is probably higher than the flat rate system that is available if someone wants. That FSC is a guaranteed one.

    Panther Fuel Discounts :)

Most reefer trucks are not running in the mid 200's Doesn't mean that you haven't got to that, but no......certainly not a average. I have looked at too many fleet owners revenue over the years to know better. Including my own. With that said, the investment vs the return on a reefer truck...

    Panther Fuel Discounts :)

Based on 1.95 and 1.00 in the Fedex forum, the average is probably somewhere in the middle. Have to agree with Jim, now a days you can run a dry van for close to that same number with half the investment if the team has some qualifications. Pretty much the reason I sold our last reefer last...

The questionable reading ability of brokers

Now that is self punishment. It is a rare occassion that I have ever posted a truck. Mainly for the reasons you described. Much easier and quicker to call a few brokers and let them do the looking. If they post the truck, then they handle the calls.

    Idiot

Likely the same type of guy that leaves his truck sitting on the fuel island while he is eating.
