the winds of war are a blowing

It could be your first scenario. It could also be that the carrier took too long to secure the load according to the shipper's liking, and the shipper canceled and went to another carrier, who also made them big promises about covering the load

the winds of war are a blowing

Dave, I guess it is kind of surprising about the lease purchase plan, but then again, why wouldn't you try and sell these trucks to your existing drivers? Lease purchase is a scary proposition, but if you have drivers you are trying to squeeze out, then they probably won't have to fill as many...

the winds of war are a blowing

It doesn't take a tractor to get those rates. $2.10 to $2.50ish is very common for FL intrastate runs. I get them in my little cube van.

the winds of war are a blowing

All of the local guys do this. When freight volume drops, they ditch their assets (Who wants to pay some guy hourly to sit around the warehouse and play checkers 4 of his 8-9 hr day?) and hire owner ops. If business is good, then everyone wins, if not, then the O/O suffers. You watch. When...

    Expediting for me? Opinions Needed!

    1. Is a budget of $50K good for a nice used 22' Expeditor? Yes, but I wouldn't worry about buying your own just yet. I've talked to people on EO who are selling their truck after only owning them for two months. Reason? Just turned out that being on the road and coping with slow days and/or...

heres one for under 10k shippments

The only time I've dealt with TQL is when they called me. I found out that the load they were offering me was already available to anyone through the carrier's own website. Basically, TQL just went and thought they could make a couple of phone calls and res-sell it to another carrier at a...

    How's your weather?

At 6:45PM on Saturday, it's fair and 57 in Orlando. It sure was windy after that storm went through yesterday.

heres one for under 10k shippments

"Bout the only thing good it did was talk to a couple of nice brokers that I'll MAYBE do work with sometime in the future. I don't think any of the shippers you will find on there actually posted on that site. It just looks like the same LTL that you'll find elsewhere. Ya know, they're...

heres one for under 10k shippments

Have you gotten anything off of that site? I did a trial of it, and it seems it's nothing more than a repost or loads from Right Now Loads. They don't clean the site up and there's always old loads that expired days ago on there. Sometimes there are as many as six duplicates of a load (not...

    Bye To The Cool People

Ok, since we're all new to this new forum setup, my guess is was not a rating, nor a profile comment, but a reputation point w/ comment. Possible?

    daily fuel report

Here's a nice one that gives avg fuel price as well as the fuel tax difference per state. It's the same chart Turtle gave, powered by ProMiles, but you have another site to get it from in case the one site is down. e T r u c k e r - Fuel Prices - eTrucker.com is the online destination for...

    Whats Next???

I think you're going to find that between payments, permits and insurance, you have a lot of investment to be trying to "ease into it" by only doing it on the weekends. Try these links below. They are more suited to your kind of equipment and freight. Oh, and do your homework before you start...

    Truckers UNwelcome

I'd have to agree. You might not always find who you want, when you want them, but I'd be writing ol' Oscar a letter this week. Did ya get the Rent a bus patrol's name? Those guys are dime a dozen.

    coe expediter anyone?

There's expediter trucks on Ebay that start way high priced all of the time. They expire not even having a couple of bids. A week later they repost.

    Looking For Hot Shots

Re: Loking For Hot Shots Also, check with freight forwarders, as well as cartage companies around Chicago. In any city, they're usually better to deal with than el cheapo brokers. Stuff like that is usually NOT on a board. Normally forwarders cover that stuff with people they know personally.

    Hazmat ?

I will now attempt to quote what T-Hawk said on here no too long ago (if I can get it right.) "Freight is freight, but dead is dead. I don't risk my life for freight."Not that I won't run hazmat, but at what expense? shipper who puts a known hazardous material on your truck without the...

    Hazmat ?

It's not always the shipper or the carrier's fault. They may not be trying to screw the O/O. Sometimes it's info that got missed when booking the load, and/or you have a dispatcher (who punches a clock as an employee) that just doesn't understand the gravity of whether or not the load is...
