    Class D or C? Confused.

Here is a basic breakdown. Some companies will differ slightly: B Unit = Cargo Van C Unit = Small Straight truck (Under 20ft box and/ or up to 5000 lbs.) D Unit = Large Straight truck (20 ft or greater box and must be able to haul 12000 lbs. Some require 13000) E Unit = Tractor w/ Trailer

Yes, We're considering FedExCC in "bad times"

Very true. Some people just don't want to hear it, even if diesel is $4.xx per gallon. I played "Go Fish" as a kid, so that must mean I'm a great high stakes poker player.

    3126 running hot

Nah, but while we've already bumped the topic, the 3126 has always been prone to overheating. However, the trick to dealing with an engine problem is to take it to the engine maker, not the truck dealer.

    Fuel Mileage

Jack, Didn't you say you had a recent 11.5mpg? I have an E450 cube van w/ a V10. I used to average about 9.2, but recently I've been slowing down and just doing anywhere from 58 to 62 mph. I've been watching my acceleration as well. I paid special attention to meaure my fillup, and lo and...

    New Truck Stop / RV

Just watch the speed signs there. Waldo, Starke and Lawty are known for very good speed traps. If you're not sure in town, just keep it 35. Some of those speed change signs are effectively obscured.

looking for the truck in my avitar

Once you have the police report, you can contact all of the scale houses in that region and fax them a copy of the truck specs w/ the vin number, but I'm sure you've probably thought of that already.

looking for the truck in my avitar

I would think that the Oklahoma DMV would have some sort of liability as well, for handing the title to him in the first place.

    19000 lb piece of crap

And here I'd be expecting more trouble from the Alumibunk stuff than the FL part.

    Carrier Forums

How about a forum for us independents? There are a lot of issues that small companies face that would be useful to others who want to run under their own authority, but probably don't belong on the general forum. There are a few of us on here already, and I can name a few who are going on...

    is it this slow everywhere?

Greg, I've run Landstar stuff in the past and plenty of it. Most are good folks. The problem with some as agents, is that they've never even seen the trucks that they are supposed to be loading. The landstar system dictates that you are dealing with sales people and not dispatchers...

    Carfax for commercial vehicles

Carfax doesn't show commercial stuff? Hmmm.. Basically, Carfax will show if the vehicle has been in an accident or fire. It will tell you if the vehicle has a salvage title. As far as maintenance, spend for a mechanic to inspect the truck. If you don't, it's no one else's fault.

    Ridiculous Gas Prices!

Hey, I remember 10-12 years ago that these same "scientists" were claiming that the earth was cooling and we were headed for "another" Ice Age. Doh!

the winds of war are a blowing

When you contracted with company X, you agreed to a certain contract rate per mile, plus fuel. Sometimes company X may have a rate of $1.05 plus fuel for a B unit load for a large busy customer. They obviously cannot survive on .28 per mile that you run. Neither can they survive on $1.85 for...
