New HOS start today - figure out how to make it work

Sitting a a "J" wasting 1/2 of daylight driving because some dufus in Washington who has never driven a truck told me I need a break. What a monumental waste of time AND fuel as my reefer just burns it up as I sit doing NOTHING of value. NOW what to I do? Pick my nose? At least this spot...

    Milestones.

This "event" has pointed out just how much older we are. We got a note from our first babysitter with congrats for our day. In the note she told us that her daughter had just graduated from college! Talk about feeling the years!

New HOS start today - figure out how to make it work

Something like that! Even when I was cutting firebreaks I preferred not to take a break. I could go for 10-12 hours on the fire line just fine. If I worked 6 and then took a rest I was tired the rest of the day. "Days" on the fire line were often 36 hours. Did a MAJOR crash after extra long...

New HOS start today - figure out how to make it work

LOL! For much of my life I was "restricted" as to restroom breaks. I often sat on a rack for 5-6 hours without a break. Nothing new for me. When I did get a break, I got sleepy. Been that way my entire life.

New HOS start today - figure out how to make it work

Running our first load today under the new regs. Should be fun with a border crossing to deal with. Same with Thursdays load. STILL trying to figure out how to wake up after the stop or how NOT to wake up when Mrs. Layoutshooter makes her stops. I KNOW I get sleepy when I stop after I have been...

It would not surprise me all if some of the PA hotshots are out west right now. There are still a few from the crew I fought fire with on that hotshot crew. They were a LOT younger than I was. LOL! Most states hotshot crews are fully mobilized this time of year. Sure wish I was still with them...

    19 firefighters dead

Hotshots come in from all over the country to fight these fires. The supervisor of the crew was a hotshot from NC. He was one of those killed. It is all over the news here, in NC, where we are at now. Most states have hotshot crews. When I went to hotshot training in PA the first time there...

New HOS start today - figure out how to make it work

The clearances are very low level with no access attached. Only once were we given access and read into a program. I suspect that was an error on the shippers part. We were read in at a much higher level than we had clearance for. Then, after we unloaded, we were never read out of the program...

That is a requirement for the truck. That pays for itself, in spades.

New HOS start today - figure out how to make it work

Well, we turn down most DOD and hazmat loads, they don't pay very well compared to our other work. Most other loads are not as much as a pain as those other loads. DOD is some of the worst.
