Shippers that don't clear snow ice

Far too many times. It always amazes me just how little attention is paid to safety. It does not matter where you go, snow and ice removal just seems that it is no longer something that is normally done any more.

    Waiting at the airport.... again.

What? You are NOT perfect? LOL!! We just deal with it as it comes. Spend a lot of time on the phone dealing with it. Just how it is.

Shippers that don't clear snow ice

This is a very dangerous business. Care must be taken all the time. Mrs. Layoutshooter carries ice fishing spikes for her shoes in the winter. They help. Shippers seem to be less and less responsible with each passing year. They seem to have no regard for peoples safety. The way I look at it is...

    Waiting at the airport.... again.

Just the nature of the business. Stuff happens. Shippers mess up, carriers mess up. We just have to deal with it when it happens.

It happens with straight trucks all the time too.

Yep, sure is. I hope it does not bite him one day. I find I take fewer "chances" as I get older. I am no sure if that is just a function of age or knowing more. I made a lot of dumb moves when I was younger, I hope I learned from those mistakes.

Good points. As to having kids to feed, there is another thought on that. Who is going to feed them if you get killed? Being safe is never out of style. Knowing your limitations and the limitations of your equipment is part of safety. Knowing when roads are too bad to be on is part of safety...

You are correct, to each his own. My concern is newbies reading this. Safety should always be our first concern, the load is always secondary to safety.

    February locations

I don't know the area all that well. All I know is that this motel is in Norcross. I live near Monroe, MI.

Gary, IN, has been good to us. The entire Chicago area has been. We are in GA right now, I am off to "Z" land now. Tired and sleepy. SO glad that I do not have to drive right now. I would have to shut down if I was this sleepy and under load. Nightie night!! "YAWN"...

ANOTHER good question. Any carrier owners want to answer this? What if I am fishing, 25 miles off shore, Mrs. Layoutshooter answers the phone and tell them where I am. There is NO way I could get back in time. There is NO cell service that far off shore any way. I am often that far off shore...

I would be "exploring" with a lawyer, BIG TIME. IF you are off, you are off. PERIOD. Interesting questions. I wonder what the "experts" in here have to say about this.

Did you hire a lawyer? I would have, as soon as I got back from vacation. That brings up another question. When I am off I am often hunting or fishing. Many times I am not in cell phone range. What would happen if my name "came up" and I could not be reached?

Dumb question, not meaning to be a pain. Did you take your truck out of service? Did you take yourselves OOS? We have ALWAYS taken US, the drivers, OOS when off. Our CC told us that we could NOT be called for a random under those conditions. Seems we may need TWO lawyers.

Yeah, I know that too. That dose NOT answer my question. I HATE the idea that I would have to lose MORE hours for a "random" while doing a "34" Put that into the "new" HOS rules, with two midnight to 6am's and a team got lose more than a week of income. Is THAT a good idea? None of this makes...

When on vacation we ALWAYS take ourselves OOS. We too are white glove. You CAN do that. I don't know who told you other wise. Did you take yourself OOS prior to going on vacation? If not, why not? We take ourselves OOS EVERY time we are home for more that 24 hours.

I KNOW what FedEx says, that is not always the "LEGAL" answer according to DOT. I was predispatched since Thursday. I want to know what the LAW is. I have not the ability to determine that for myself. I cannot read, "legaleez". My fault to be sure, but it is what it is.

FedEx will NOT allow you to go OOS if pre-dispacthed. I think that If you are doing a "34" You are OOS. I sent a message to FedEx that we were "out of hours" and doing a "34". I don't know the "legal" answer to this. Do anyone?

    Super Bowl Picks

Mine too. Green Bay is STILL the winningest team in NFL history. More chapionships than any other team. The Steelers are second in that reguard as far as I know. Not a bad game, could have been better.

I know that, I would NEVER refuse to comply. The question was, is a person on a 34 reset out of service? FedEx says no if you are pre-dispatched. Just asking real questions to problems that I do not fully understand.
