    Iraq Trucking Jobs

Worked for that company and others for several years. Money was great, some excitement, a lot of supervision. Stopped when offerred a job in Iraq. Best thing I ever did, lost friends over there now that should have said no also. I don't recommend it, nothing's worth your life. JMO Jack

    FSC and publicly traded companies

I agree with the others; you accept a load and it's pay based on your cost to move your truck. If the total load pay breaks down to $1.50 all miles and you have determined that you need $1.30 then it's a doable load. To me I don't care where the money comes from to make the load $1.50...

Iraqi raid nets 220 Al Qaeda suspects

I've been on the ground - and we need to read between the lines. The people who are in the majority now arrested hundreds of Sunni's who they were under the thumb of for centuries - without major killing and injuries(?). It's great that no American troops were injured or killed. But, just as in...

    Van to Dock Ramp

Met a Landstar owner with a small van/box and he had a set of plastic ramps in the box. Said he used them several times, but seems like a lot of risk to the van backing onto those things. JMO Jack

    Cargo Van / Sprinter Income

Insurance for a new Sprinter; $2,400., fully covered. Maintenance on a Sprinter is very costly, but $100. a week should cover it unless something big goes and then you better hope your still under warranty. Fuel under 65mph, I average 18 mpg. At 58mph (which I force myself to do) I get 21/22mpg...

from the Fedex forum: Air Tabs

First thing I added to my new Sprinter were air tabs. I have seen a difference in the stability of the van in a high wind and heavy rain storm. Looked in rearview mirroe and just as clear back there as if I was standing still, no swirling of the rain behind the van. Jack

    Sirius radios

Discovered that if your truck radio has a AUX plug in hole, plug sirius into Aux, tune radio to Aux. and it's just like direct connect! No interference, clear and continuous!

    Sirius radios

Those of you who have the Sirius radio add-on units, those where you have need to program both your FM and the Sirius radios to the same non-in-use station. What do you find is the best station to tune to? I know 88.1 is the preset channel, just wondering if anyone has found something better...

    Ride Comfort?

I've driven a Frtln. Century without front airbags, a WesternStar with front airbags, and now a Frtln. Sprinter. S/T's with airbags (after getting used to the ride) is the only way to go. The ride in the Sprinter cannot be compared to a S/T, it's just apples and oranges.

    class 8

Fyda Freightliner in Columbus, OH usually has a good stock of class 8 converted S/t's. Ask for John for upfront facts and figures.

    Gvwr

The question your asking has too many possible scenerios; is the truck in question going to be team driven, what type of load average weight does your carrier focus on, etc, etc. The major carriers have truck designations (B-C-D-E) based on the freight they are designed to carrier, and they do...

    layover spots

LDB; I feel uneasy trying to give someone with your experience any advice, suggestion, or information, but here I go. I've had several months experience as a solo in a D Unit, and it's difficult. I'm out of Boston and the northeast is perhaps the best area of the country for a solo driver. Daily...

    Sprinter OBDII port location

I've looked everywhere for the OBDII outlet on my new Stprinter (08) and can't find it! Just received a ScanGuageII and it needs to plug into the outlet. Anyone know where they hid it? Thanks, Jack

How Do You Remove Graffiti From a Truck?

Oven off, oven cleaner works and will not hurt the paint. I've used it TWICE already, but I find myself in NYC alot and it's got to be expected. Jack

    Why do you do this?

I've done a lot of things in my life, but the freedom of the road beats the heck out of most of them!

    Question/Tip

My understanding is basically the same as HS, no brakes, no gear changes - simply coast across, thus less chance of mechanical problems resulting in thrain thru truck etc.
