    New Expediter Question

Well said Rich. I worked for a company that had 4 plants, only one of which was unionized. These people went on strike for the better part of 2 months for a nickel! 6 months later the plant closed and they opened a second one in Mississippi. The unionized plant was consistantly the least...

    Canada Canadian Expediter Nearly Strangled....

I don't really consider that to be the line. A lot of times many of those waiting aren't even awake when the gate opens. If the gate opens and I'm ready to go, I go. If I see someone ahead of me that looks like their almost ready to go, I'll stop and see if they want to go. Usually they just...

    Rumsfeld resigns

Bryan, Rumsfeld didn't go into Iraq, the President did. Speaking of the U.N., how long will it take for U.S. to acknowledge what a joke they are and pull out?

    Get off your donkey

I've been in trucking since the mid-seventies, about the same time OOIDA was founded. I agree that they have done some good in some individual cases. I was looking at the industry as a whole.

    Get off your donkey

With this post, I'm beginning to show my OOIDA# in my sig line. But, if you draw 2 time lines, 1 for OOIDA starting with it's founding to present day and another for the state of trucking, one has to ask if our money is well spent. I will continue to support them with the hope that as time goes...

    Congratulations Tallcal

I would like to congradulate our left-leaning friends here as well. A statement has been made and here in Michigan our Governor was able to ride that wave for another... Just a second, I'll be right back. O.K., I'm back. I had to get a drink of water, I had some throw-up in my mouth. ...for...

    WWJD

I'm interested to see what the turnout is going to be like. I'm in a rural area and expected to be there pretty much alone at 0800. What a surprise, I had to wait a couple of minutes in line.

TRUCK DRIVERS WANTED FOR A NEW TELEVISION SHOW ON

RE: TRUCK DRIVERS WANTED FOR A NEW TELEVISION SHOW I think it's real easy for us to get defensive in a situation like this. We know that the element that makes us like that is out there. But, to make an analogy, let's say she was looking for loggers in Oregon. She ends up with this big, hard...

What is the best GPS device?

I'm still on the old pen and paper system. But I've talked to SO many people who've bought one and just rave about it and say they wish they had done it long ago that I'm giving it serious consideration.

    Refreshing change of subject.

I think this belongs in the "tooting your horn" thread.:+ ;) But seriously, I was almost in one of these situations. A little girl was standing by herself in the mall crying her eyes out and obviously scared. And people were just walking by. Before I got to her a security guard showed up. How...

    Ricky Carmichael signs NASCAR deal.

Good point about the pit crew. I did'nt mean that a driver can get by without talent, it's just a different equation. According to the rumor mill, the talent Ricky is showing in adapting to the car may be in question. Before signing with Ginn, he tested with Ray Evernham and Joe Gibbs. They...

    Sleepy Drivers

It's a tough call on whether the continuous clock or taking 5/5 away from teams was the most idiotic part of the new HOS. Studies have shown that proper rest can come in shifts, it does'nt have to be a straight 8 hours. 5/5 makes way more sense from a safety perspective.

    Ricky Carmichael signs NASCAR deal.

The "Angry Elf" has signed a 3 year deal to go fast and turn left. He will be with Ginn Racing along with Mark Martin, Sterling Marlin, and Joe Nemechek. Can he achieve the dominance he has in motocross? I doubt it. In motocross, the rider is the bigger part of the bike/rider equation. In...

Union - Could it work, is it needed?

Having not been able to get on line for a couple of days, and only having a short time now, this seemed like a good thread to quickly browze for comedic value. I found it in message #14 where it said we would better understand ridiculous union ineptness if we were unionized. The vast majority of...

    Cost analysis for expediting

Back when I was a golfer, we would refer to the girl driving the beverage cart as the "beer wench". 95% of them knew we meant this in an affectionate way. The others did'nt get a tip.

Hey is this all true? Iraq really coming around?

RE: Hey is this all true? Iraq really coming aroun Greg is right on target about Arabs respecting strength. The move into Iraq was a preemptive move and showed that strength. Sadamm and allies like Syria were a potential threat. Whether or not Osama was in Iraq is as totally irrelavent as it...
