    Unloading Rules

Somebody mentioned a 12-volt winch, I've thought of the purchase of a come-along, the only problem with either of these is anchoring the device. The come-along points up the problems of using nylon straps (of any size) since in order to use a come-along you would be in the line of fire when that...

    The Driver Shortage

You may be right. A local courier company I used to drive for has an ad in Craigslist every week, and I know why. The new drivers come into the warehouse, load up their vehicles and spend the whole day on the routes unloading the truck. On Friday of the second week, you get the paycheck for the...

Implications of new 34 hour restart rule

On second thought-- why should I be in a rush to get a CDL or even think of going over 10,000 lbs? The way the government is jerking your chain,-- forget about it.

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

I've already said the carrier I'm signed on with is operating out of his basement. I've been with them for nearly two years now, and so far: I know how many miles before I start, and usually it works out to a few more paid miles than actual loaded miles, I know what the rate is, I can calculate...

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

The carrier I drive for now operates out of the basement of his house. I haven't had a problem with him yet. I drove for another carrier that had an office. The office was in the seedy part of town and generally had an unwholesome atmosphere about the place. No operating authority that I ever...

I wonder how many people that fools. New Lenox is, like, right next door to Joliet.

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

Optic nerve damage in the left eye KO'd any chance I'd get a CDL. The standard for a regular driver's license aren't so strict, the only restriction on my license is that I have to have outside mirrors-- which all vehicles come equipped with anyway. The left eye DOES detect movement so I do...

    warrning bad owner

One way we "sniff around" is by asking questions on forums like this one. Suppose you're looking into a company and you see a forum post that is, shall we say, less than stellar-- would that give you a moment to pause before signing on the dotted line? You bet it would! You might still choose to...

A crime to make fun of a politician?

There are editorial cartoonists who would be in a lot of trouble, from both sides of the aisle-- because making fun of politicians is how they earn their bread and cheese.

    windows on van

I'm thinking, in our business I'll feel better in the right equipment to begin with. In this case, that means a cargo van. No windows back of the driver's door. I don't even feel good about windows in the back doors, steel is better. About cruise control, rear heat and air and so on--- these...

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

Xmud, I've a notion to keep an eye on this thread because you and I have a similar thing going on. A bad left eye keeps me from doing the CDL thing, otherwise I would do it in half a heartbeat. So, I stick with the van and hope to find a better company someday. The one I drive for now is good on...

    warrning bad owner

We're all arguing grammar in a thread which has a misspelling in the thread title. Hmmm... Actually, most of the stuff I see here is tolerable. Over on another forum I visit (MyOpera Debates and Discussions, a lot like our Soapbox only not as civil) we have a Scotsman who murders the Queen's...

    Flying j prefered customer

Don't let it throw you. For what it's worth, I recently got the "preferred card", found it to be next door to worthless and asked if there's better in the general forum here. The consensus of opinion is that the professional card is good for 1/2 shower credit for every 15 gallons of gasoline...

is this the perfect sprinter alternative?

I might be inclined to buy because it's not a Sprinter. Look, Sprinters-- especially the big ones-- are roomy as you could want. Mercedes could own this market, no questions asked, if---. If is a mighty big word sometimes. If Mercedes backed the Sprinter after the sale. If repairs were...

is this the perfect sprinter alternative?

I think I may have seen something like that around here. The thing that concerns me is the weight, to get that high-top obviously you give up some payload-- fiberglass doesn't come cheap in the weight department. If you put it on a 3500, though-- I can see this sitting in my parking spot some day.

    Loyalty cards-- experience

I'll have to consider that. The "preferred Customer" card is useless, but the other two just might be worth something.

    Loyalty cards-- experience

I don't know about you, but my experience with loyalty cards is somewhat less than stellar. The TA/Petro card-- Forget about it, I don't have one and after what I've been reading here, I will NEVER have a TA/Petro card. In fact, after the "unwelcome wagon" was rolled out on one of the last...

Whats the longest you've ever sat?? And where was it???

That was a long time. Apparently long enough for you to dig up a three-year-old thread. That's not easy even for someone who's been here awhile, you did it your first try. Hmmmm....... Necropost wonder!
