I dont understand how someone can drive expidite loads

How can I drive expedited loads??? Well, to tell the truth it's easy enough. The dispatcher calls me, says he has a pickup at a given place going to another place, I grab my cup of coffee, start my engine and go. That doesn't seem to be much of a problem. Looking at this thread, I'd say the...

Is TRI-STATE RUNNING or are they SITTING like MOST Carriers?

It would seem striking a balance isn't easy. You don't want to run too cheap, because giving away free miles is still free miles. On the other hand, if you price yourself too high you end up sitting instead of moving and making any money. Getting that balance right-- there's the trick.

Is TRI-STATE RUNNING or are they SITTING like MOST Carriers?

Safety 101 lesson: If you're working for an outfit that requires you to run 24 hours without rest--- stop right now, tell them to find somebody else and you find a sane company to drive for. Money is useless if you are dead--- and you WILL BE DEAD if you drive too many hours without getting some...

Is TRI-STATE RUNNING or are they SITTING like MOST Carriers?

I drive a van for a small outfit in Chicago. About that miles before safety thing--- I'm the guy who's gonna be first to the accident scene. Trees and bridge supports are kind of unforgiving when you hit them head on. Ditches don't make the best place to spend the night even if you manage to...

I am ANGRY....and do not know where to direct it.....

No joy here. A search shows that the doghouse in a Sprinter is not removable, which means all service has to be done either from the front of the van or by removing the engine. Why MB did this is anybody's guess, making the doghouse removable would make service to the rear parts of the engine so...

I am ANGRY....and do not know where to direct it.....

    # 6 is in the rear of the engine. Unless the Sprinter has a removable doghouse-- I don't remember the doghouse in my '05 being removable-- it'll be a bear to get to. American slopbuckets have removable doghouses, so, in a case like the Chevy I have now, I would remove the cupholder/glovebox...

I am ANGRY....and do not know where to direct it.....

Dragging out the Jaguar bit again: I seem to remember that several years back the Jag wasn't that great a vehicle mechanically. It looked terrific--- if you can't attract women while driving a Jaguar then there's really something wrong with you-- but the engine left much to be desired. I was...

I am ANGRY....and do not know where to direct it.....

Just a quick calculation-- your mileage may vary: Total gross. $50K. 20 percent of that is 10K. That's a LOT, old boy. If you're spending 10K on "any and all maintenance" on a van--- ANY van-- per year then something really went astray. At that price, I can go down to Liberty Auto down the...

I am ANGRY....and do not know where to direct it.....

A work truck should NOT require an act of worship as part of the ritual. Sprinter loses here, big time. Sorry, way too expensive and way too fussy for any but the rich-- who just might be inclined to make deliveries in a Jaguar.

I am ANGRY....and do not know where to direct it.....

I had a 2005 Sprinter. Not bad for room, and the fuel economy was the cat's pajamas in this business. Parts and repairs--- not so much. I've had one Sprinter, won't have another. You all but have to worship that machine and then it'll still bite you. My Chevy can't haul as many skids, but when I...

    Any idea who this is??

At those rates, you won't be working for them for long anyway. You have to be able to maintain your equipment and eventually replace it, after all. I'm losing interest real quick in outfits that want me to have expensive (read, newer and especially Sprinters) equipment but don't want to pay...

    High wind alert

I drove through those winds in Iowa yesterday, US 20 to and from Waterloo. Heavy gusts and blowing snow across open prairie make for interesting driving. The problem with Lake Erie isn't the lowering water levels when the wind is blowing. The problem is that water is going to come back after...

    *need help* out of fuel!!!

I've been giving this some thought. Wolv, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. First, who is my competition? At the most, I'd have to limit that to anybody within one hundred miles of my location. That's "at the most". Beyond that, and there's not much chance the dispatcher would send me to...

    *need help* out of fuel!!!

In that case, I'd be inclined to go two gallons. Personally, I don't like pushing things that close. Even though my van gets about 14 mpg average, I've seen it get less than that so one gallon might be cutting it a bit too fine. More than two is asking for trouble the other way--- read that post...

    *need help* out of fuel!!!

You've obviously never been a "newbie" and have obviously never made a stupid mistake that cost you. Congratulations!!!! Now, get ready, it's gonna happen. Karma can be a bear robbed of her cubs when she's crossed. FWIW: In all probability, nobody was in a position to help the OP at the time...

That from a man who, a few posts ago, was willing to throw someone else under the bus because you wouldn't help "the competition". Hmmmm.......

    *need help* out of fuel!!!

OK, got it. That one is a good deal worse too. Diesel trucks don't like being run dry, getting started again can mean more than just getting a few gallons of fuel into the tank. Gasoline is hard enough. Note: Back in the days I was running local, I ran my tank dry twice. Once was in my own...

    *need help* out of fuel!!!

OK, I have to ask: Who ran out of fuel twice in four hours? The OP of this thread has two posts, and neither mentions running out twice in a short time. I know, it may be in the thread--- but digging through 75 posts to find that one might take awhile.

Remember, Romney lost because of that 47% comment. From the moment he said that, he could not win.
