canadian but wants to work for american comp.?

Thompson Emergency, TST, RJR, Roaring Express are just a few of the Windsor based companies that do cross boarder freight. There are a few others, have you talked to any of them?

    Freightiner Layoffs in North Carolina

It's been a couple of years since I've had Freightliner freight, but at that time they used NLM.

    House versus Apartment

There was a case reported in one of the trucker magazines of a couple that lived in their truck and were denied the meal write off because they had no home to be away from.

one quick question on a rumour i keep hearing

Companies will purge their fleet of under performing contractors when freight is slow. When things start to turn around they will begin to rebuild.

Hours Of Service & driver retention dilemmas

I think, and I could be wrong, that waiting for a load in a truckstop, or anywhere else, is no longer consider on-duty, not driving. Before the changes it was, but wasn't really enforced. I mean, can you imagine? Nothing would have gotten done. I've never, in 30 years, seen the DOT wandering...

Is Panterii going to buy TriState?

Could be, but what they were doing at the time with the lettering and graphics changes seems a lot to be doing if you're thinking about selling. There are less involved things that could have been done in the interest of keeping up appearances. Whatever the case, I do feel bad for the drivers...

Is Panterii going to buy TriState?

Was Con-Way Expedited up for sale? They not only weren't up for sale but had undergone a name change and were changing their look. But, they had their price and Fenway Partners gave it to them. As I recall from a recruitment package I got from Tri-State, they have been in business since '79...

    Canada ACE Canada loads

The passport requirement is in effect now for air travelers. For everyone else it will be Jan.'08. I've also read that "other secure documents" will be accepted. I guess that would be a FAST card?

    Expediter Man Law

What kind of rules can we come up with to govern ourselves? We don't need to take the "Man" part too seriously Ladies, feel free to join in. I'll start off with the first one. 1. Thou shalt not whine like a 3 year old to dispatch every 10 minutes in the middle of January.

    Scales???

As Terry pointed out, it depends on the states definition of a commercial vehicle. If they go by the federal definition, crossing wouldn't be required. Personally, I haven't crossed any scale in over 7 months. I think the vast majority of officers working in the scales don't want to be bothered...

    Tipping the mechanic

Wait staff are the only people I know of that have an income based in part on tipping. Other than that, it takes someone going above and beyond to get a tip from me, and there have been a few times. I just won't tip someone who showed up and did their job. We are in a job that frequently saves...

    Duty Status Macro

Av-sleeping means you can take sleep time and not lose your place in line. If you become #1 while sleeping, they would go around you until your sleep time is up. 34 hour restart is for logging drivers that have run out of hours.

Dale Jr. getting the boot ?

Senior got killed going into the wall. How many drivers did he put into the wall over the years? He's lucky he didn't kill someone. Is wimpy the right description? How about, more civil? I know someone whose interest dropped big time after Senior died. He used to watch just to see what #3 was...

WHAT ARE OUR HOURLY WAGE(s) ??

IMHO, I don't see any cut&dry right or wrong here, other than sleep time should be left out of the equation. You have to sleep no matter where you're at. I would tend to lean towards Thawk's view. I know farmers that have run some form of this formula and, trust me, we're doing better than most...

Hawk, I once saw a guy that had 2 ferrets in his truck. Trust me, you don't want your truck to smell like that.
