Just rec'd info on new duty status from Panther. One is AV-Sleeping and the other is AV-34 Hour Restart. What do these two mean to a van driver?
Thanks.

Av-sleeping means you can take sleep time and not lose your place in line. If you become #1 while sleeping, they would go around you until your sleep time is up. 34 hour restart is for logging drivers that have run out of hours.
Do they just use the 34 hour restart when drivers run out of hours ? It seems like expeditors would have a chance for that restart long before they ran out of hours . Be advised if you exceed the 70 in 8 you cannot use the restart . You can legally exceed the 70 in 8 . Say you run in your delivery at the 68 hour point and wait 2 1/2 hours for someone to decide to receive the load . You didn't drive after the 70 so there's no violation but you worked over 70 so you don't get a restart .
I have never used the 34 hour restart driving a van, but I did use the AV/Sleeping Macro already, and it kept sending error msgs - you have to scroll down on the Status screen to enter return date & time.
Still waiting to hear what the courts decide on Public Citizen trying to get the 34 hour restart thrown out because it COULD allow a driver to drive more than 70 hours in 8 days . I bet they can't document a single accident caused by a driver being too fatigued because he took the restart . As far as Public Citizen goes I question their judgement regarding safety when their main spokesperson (Claybrook ) is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of women and children killed by airbags she pushed on the public without adequate development and testing .
