If it doesn't have one, you can try one of those cab mounted air dam things. They help a little. You're still going to wish it had more oomph, but I don't think much can be done. Totally unhelpful answer: Put some good speakers in it, and get some classical music CDs. I like Frederic Chopin.

Occasionally the EGR valve(s) fail. Usually they stop moving through their entire stroke. Sometimes the electrical portion develops a fault. This will set a CAN code (which I don't remember right now, but I don't think it's one you've listed). If they stop moving through their whole stroke...

Oh, any P0087/P0088 codes? Low/high fuel rail pressure? Any codes set at all during this episode?

That's one hell of a question! I like it. Idk why they used a Hastings filter. The easiest thing to do is put a Hino filter back on and see if it helps. It takes 10 minutes to do a dx report. Add half an hour to warm it up and do fuel system evaluation tests. If injection pump is confirmed...

Looking for help on My Hino 338

Also, depending on when the turbo was replaced(if it was the cause of this), it might possibly have some parts warranty left. If it does, there's a possibility of some good-will warranty on incidental damages. Get both Penske and the dealer who did the repairs involved, and get the dealer's TSM...

Looking for help on My Hino 338

I would argue that the valve cover be removed and line checked for leaks by penske, in your presence. But first, pull the metal elbow off of the turbo air inlet. Is the compressor wheel intact, or did it disintegrate and shear off of the shaft? If so, no reason to dig any deeper.

Looking for help on My Hino 338

Were the injectors recently replaced, or did it have a valve adjustment done? There is a metal line under the valve cover that attaches to the the top of each injector. This channels fuel return to the outside of the engine. This line is rather delicate. If it is put on properly, it never...

You have a coolant leak. Does the coolant return from the overflow tank to the radiator when it cools off? If not, test the radiator cap. Also, has the hose on the bottom of the overflow bottle cap fallen off? It needs to be fished out of the tank and reattached. It's also possible to...

Sell it and get one with a six cylinder? The 4 bangers are pretty much slugs. They like to rev though. What rpm are you turning at say, 60 mph in high gear? The exhaust manifold studs like to break (especially if some of the exhaust hangers are missing) and this causes exhaust leaks. Very...

That pretty much means that the ecu is trying to communicate to the VNT but it's not being successful. Classic vnt fail, as long as ecu grounds arent compromised.

I think your vnt controller is dying. It is not available separately. You're probably going to have to replace the turbo if cleaning the grounds doesn't help.

Better City Delivery Truck: Hino 268 vs Freightliner M2 106 ?

If you have Hino software, test the VNT. Actual VNT position should follow target to within 5%. Any deviation from this makes the VNT controller suspect. If you see deviation, spray the upper and lower VNT links, and the lever going into the turbine housing (which is impossible to see) with...
