    Pay problems

I would report the owner to the SID division of the IRS as well as what I talked about earlier, It used to be that if you didnt get paid at all for a run it was 15% of whatever the face value of the check was per day for each day past the pay period ending was The issue then would be if the...

    Opportunity Requires Decision, Please Advise

mention the fluctuations in the cost of used equipment in recent years. Let's say you have a 2 year old expedite truck with 200,000 miles that was purchased new for $73,000 (assume it has a Cummins engine). What is the low and high you have seen for used trucks like this in the last 3 years or...

    Pay problems

guess my question would be, is why Panther isn't stepping in and stopping this owner from screwing anyone else. I heard about another owner, signed on with Panther, who was doing the same thing to cargo van drivers. It seems to me that they (Panther), and any other company, wouldn't want any...

over the road vrs Expedite frieght

We are currently running both. It is to hard to tell as they are so different. Doing dedicated freight lanes and expedite are just too different to compare. Different breed of people in both as well. What is gravy to one, is sand to another. Davekc owner 20 years

    Opportunity Requires Decision, Please Advise

I always believe, the most simple way, is usually the best way. These deals mentioned are getting to clouded with "what ifs" It appears as a colorized lease purchase. Based on your post I would drive on a 60/40 split and save your money. The industry has been very erratic depending on the...

    Bought a used Lemon

New trucks use to be the way to go. I agree with Vernon. Used is the way to go now. Trucks 5 years ago were around $50,000 to 60,000 when purchased new. The new truck today is much nicer but the cost is almost double. Not a great return on the dollar until freight rates catch up. Used trucks...

    Qualcom wire fire !!

I believe I would want to know why there was no fuse on the wire. Either it was sent from Qualcomm without it (which I doubt) or installer removed it. It was probably a used unit and the fuse and wire was left with the prior vehicle. Installer is likely to be the source based on your info. Davekc

    Acquisition of Panther II

    >>10% over 5 years. Two percent a year, revenue increase?? 25% >>operating increase. Man, we're crapping in tall cotton now >> >>I was thinking the same thing >> >>Davekc >I agree 10% increase is nothing to crow about.Especially >when you figure that the FSC is also figured into the...

    NJ / East Coast advice

If you are struggling in NJ go to Philly. NYC is good but does have some hassles. Alot of small loads come out of Kennedy & LaGuardia Last choice from there would be CT. Several places but probably Hartford. Some depends on how many trucks are at these locations. Davekc

    Acquisition of Panther II

As with the whole industry, many things changed. And certainly not all for the better. Income from that era was more than double what it is today "As with the whole industry many things have changed" What part of that is not understood? "The whole industry" is the same as "consistent with the...

    Fuel Prices

On one side of the coin the company is at times trying to satisfy a customer. Sometimes not, as they are just bid loads. These are good for the company, but not the owner operator. On the other side, your truck has to remain profitable, or the company's success doesn't really matter...

    Acquisition of Panther II

Raceman makes some good points. I don't think this is an attempt by Panther to screw their drivers. Aquisitions happen all the time. Early statements indicate things will mostly stay the same. The possibility of increased freight opportunities do exist because this is a non asset based company...

    Fuel Prices

Hopefully the fuel surcharges keep pace with the increases. I don't believe we have seen the worst as far as fuel prices go. Changes in winter blends with the new sulfer regulations, will certainly make it interesting. Davekc

    Splits

As mentioned, a 60/40 split is the most common. Again, make sure you are getting a copy of the carrier's settlement statement from your owner. 100 percent of zero, is still zero. Percentages are of little value unless you really know what the beginning totals are. If he is taking a percentage...
