RE: Women in Trucking - am I too old at 55 to take Silverdollar: can you explain why you think what you said is "the truth"? Because both Mrs Goodtude (Cynthia) and I are living (and working) proof that you are wrong! Leo: I didn't think gender had anything to do with it either, but I've...

    JUNG EXPRESS LOAD ISSUE

Missouri Newbie: if you can overlook the Col's lack of eloquence, diplomacy, and political correctness, his comments are generally right-on. The BOL, being your only Proof of Delivery, is the only way you will get paid for your work - lose it, and you don't get paid until it gets straightened...

Who said it and why is it important?

Who said it: probably every President, to every lobbyist, and Why it's important: because it's our money they're giving away! :P

Picked up one of those little Ovens

I believe the "Manifold destiny" referred to by Moot is the cookbook I mentioned in another thread: how to cook on the engine manifold.

    Looking for a Driver

How about that perennial favorite: "pay commensurate with experience"?;)

    Kudos to Dave

Of course Jeff J. is irreplaceable, but DaveKC is too! The article was very well written: direct, concise, and full of important points to learn & practice. I hope to see more like it, and thanks to Dave & Jeff for all the good articles already written, and those yet to come.

Yep time for a strike - thanks GM!

"Class warfare"?! Is that what I was suggesting? I don't think so - I think "class warfare" is just like "Bush haters": a convenient label to dismiss criticism, without addressing it's merits. Who cares how much management makes, vs how much they accomplish? When no one does, what you get is...

Yep time for a strike - thanks GM!

If the suits at the Big 3 hadn't laughed Mr Deming out of their offices, back in the 50's, telling him to take his goofy ideas to Japan instead, (when "made in Japan" meant CHEAP & worthless), the shoe would be on the other foot today: American vehicles would be first quality, workers &...

    Always something new to learn

Hey, Arkjar: there's actually a cookbook, that tells you how many miles it takes to cook a piece of meat on the manifold, lol. But with my idea, I won't have to get out & raise the hood, see? I can save the energy for more important stuff, like figuring out where to put tortilla chips, salsa...

Yep time for a strike - thanks GM!

Of course they will - in Britain, it's 10 times more than the hourly worker. In Japan, it's 11 times more. In America, it's 500 times more! I have to wonder why that fact doesn't cause outrage, like the union payscale does. Both union & management have gotten far too big, and so far from...

What's the next move for a Newbie with Class B per

RE: What's the next move for a Newbie with Class B Ms MM: welcome! I think the answers to your specific questions, about which carriers and owners would be willing to take on a newbie, would be best answered by the carriers & owners themselves. Every major carrier has recruiters, who exist...

Yep time for a strike - thanks GM!

Just to be the devil's advocate, here: how much do the 'suits' on the other side of the table get paid? And, how much of that do they really deserve, judging by their performance?

    Always something new to learn

In the process of replacing the fridge in the truck, I made a couple interesting discoveries: first, that the shelves in the GE fridge fit exactly into the cabinets of the FL Century, and there are even grooves inside the cabinet walls to support the shelf. (I would think that other FL models...

    Quality of CDs

The Nero software doesn't recognize the DVD discs, sigh. On the other hand, I found an excellent CD storage thingy at Wallyworld: a box, the size of a CD, except about 6" deep, that holds 60 CDs in hanging sleeves, like for file folders - I like it! (Yeah, I really do need to get out more, lol)

    Take your shoes off please!

How far would I push the issue? To the point where it becomes contentious. Because How much control do you have? A lot - you can do it their way, or you can do it the hard (and extremely time-consuming) way. It's not fair, but the cold, hard truth is that the inspectors can make you sorry...

    Quality of CDs

Thanks, Greg. I haven't had any problem with the incompatiblity issue, other than having to download Nero to burn them, as Windows Media player won't do it. The problem is the CDs refusing to eject, so I have to remove the faceplate of the player, and pull them out - not something I want to do...

    panther board positioning

In my experience, "board position" was pretty much irrelevant. First, because you have no way of knowing whether it's accurate, and second, even if you really are 'first out', you can be bypassed, for various reasons. (I've had the driver next to me, who was there before me, bypassed for a load...

    Only if..

It would be really great if people weren't saturated with the impression that 'conflict resolution' is achieved only by aggression & force. War, entertainment such as the most popular video games, and even the school's own emphasis on sports, all contribute to the idea that conflict is...

RE: Women in Trucking - am I too old at 55 to take Helle: I too, was very nervous about both driving, and especially backing up, in a t/t. The best advice I can give is to do only what you feel comfortable with: if that means that Jack does all the backing up, that's ok, (as long as he doesn't...
