Has Anyone Met a Hobby Expediter?

If "hobbyist" means they're expediting for reasons other than supporting themselves and/or a family, I've met several. Most were retired & driving a cargo van. I don't begrudge them, either - they have as much right to expedite as any of us, whatever their reason.

    Saying Good Bye to Panther

All I can do is agree, sigh - I can't even change the font style or size, anymore, and I'm afraid that keeping me out of trouble is a bigger job than Dave & Leo together can manage. ;) (But at least I haven't made the newscasts:eek: and I've learned to stay out of range of Moot's camera, too!) :o

    Panther Drivers

Include an RV dump station and people will literally give you crap Well, now isn't that an attractive inducement? Why go to the expense, when he can get that here, for free? Dave, I spend some time in the Seville area, having family nearby, and would like to see such a place - if you...

    Saying Good Bye to Panther

Get rid of you?! EO doesn't want to get rid of you any more than Panther did - you're a class act, all the way. Hope to hear more good stuff, soon.:)

    Awe OK

Aw, awright! My sigline "Mr Goodtude solidarity" had nothing to do with Leo - I want Leo to live, really! It was a protest against the removal of the post that got Mr Goodtude banned, so that we couldn't make up our own minds about whether it was deserved. (Ok, I'm pretty sure it was, knowing...

    This just in

I disremember - but it was either a Republican, or a Democrat, I bet - they're both trouble for "we, the people"

    This just in

No doubt Dubya and Dick will say "Make no mistake, you're absolutely right, Dcalien - we need to do something about this, right now!" Then they'll issue an Executive Order banning trucks from within 5 miles of the Capitol..... Problem solved, Dubya style.

    Newbie? Oldbie?

Hey Dcalien: somewhere in the archives, there's a GREAT thread, called "You know you're an expediter, when...." It's one of my all time favorites, and if you find it, let me know, ok? I'm hopeless at searches :o but I'd like to read it again:D

    its not if but when

Just cause you have one, you don't have to BE one. Disclaimer: this isn't aimed at any of the above replies, just something I really liked when I saw it on a bumper.:D

    Power Inverters?

WWW.InvertersRUs is the best site I've seen, for explaining it all: how to determine how much, what kind, how to install, etc. If you buy one from them, they will even "talk" you through the installation, by phone, if need be. An invaluable resource!

one week is all you got

Since expediting can sometimes take you to places that are tough to get out of, (even got spots get cold, sometimes), I'd consider the ability to book a backhaul invaluable. Particularly in a t/t, because the freight isn't expedited, which means you can combine loads. DaveKC & Leo are...

    Drivers Pay

Um, because they don't HAVE to?! This is one issue that OOIDA has attempted to address legally, without success - possibly because there aren't enough members. I don't see any justification in not passing along 100% of the FS to whomever pays for the fuel. By whatever name they call it, it's...

    Fleet owner observation

DaveKC is right - and he's an owner I would drive for, if I were a team. Owners who can see the driver's point are good, as are drivers who can see the owner's point. Nobody makes money if the truck isn't rolling, for whatever reason, so the goal of both should be to keep the truck running...

    What's cheap for us???

The word "cheap" is subjective, no matter how you define it. While Mr Sullivan's method is certainly sensible, there are those who call freight "cheap" if it doesn't meet their standard of acceptable profit. And those standards vary according to who is setting them. My cheap freight may be your...

    Cargo Van Questions

If you can't get a CDL until Sept, 09, you have plenty of time to research, because you won't even be able to drive a cargo van without a CDL. (I know that some ads have said "No CDL needed", but I believe that proved to be a misrepresentation, and a CDL is required). Should you find an owner...

    60/40?/fair?

Almost $3000 for what amounts to a room divider?! Even with insulation & E track fittings, that's outrageous! Couldn't you (not you specifically, but someone handy) fabricate something close, for a LOT less money?

    60/40?/fair?

Bruno, I know they're not all cheap, or dishonest, or greedy, etc. because the owners I drive for are fair and good people. What I don't know, though, is what a "skinny bun" is!!!

    60/40?/fair?

Hey Bruno - what in the heck is a "skinny bun"?!

    60/40?/fair?

Butterfly, I think you should have been given all the 'unload' pay. That is a 'people' pay, not an 'equipment' pay, and the owner contributed nothing to the work. Perhaps if you ask, the owner will realize that the money should be handed over, especially if you are a 'good' driver - and it...
