Important Ruling on In Cab Laptops pending

I think it's dangerous for the driver, not to mention the laptop, to use it while driving, so I hope the rule prohibiting it is passed. I wonder, though, why some of the larger carriers don't use their buying in volume power to help the drivers acquire a GPS unit - seems they could buy them at...

    ATA Truck Driving Championships

I second Bruno's suggestion: having a skills challenge as part of the Expedite Expo. Not to take anything away from the 'Pride & Polish' competitions, a skills challenge is one I think we should have an opportunity to enter, no matter whom we drive for. As I said when Linder Caffee won the...

    ATA Truck Driving Championships

To reply to ATeam's snide remark "People can read. The link is posted in the original" : a link isn't much help for those with a very slow connection, and even though I read the referenced link, it didn't appear to answer the question that Pjjjj asked, so what's the big deal about just answering...

    ATA Truck Driving Championships

Someone needs to take a chill pill, here - that's pretty hostile, for a simple question.

Bob & Linder: an example of what I only wish I could be: a true team, and awfully nice people, too.

A very welcome addition to the EO group - hope you continue to add your 2 cents - or whatever the equivalent is, in Canadian, LOL.

You'll forgive me for hoping you get stuck, occasionally - we could use some new songs. :D

    Litte known threat.. "Dry Drowning"

Yes, it's really scary, because the symptoms are so vague, and easily overlooked. On the other hand, not knowing how to swim, is even scarier, IMO. I took my granddaughter to learn to swim classes, when she was 3 yrs old, because I think every kid should at least be able to avoid drowning...

    Matter of perspective

Agree with Charles on the difference perspective makes - I took my cargo van out for a spin the other day, and was amazed that I used to be quite comfortable, sleeping on the tiny bunk, lol. Leo: I toured the Battleship Texas, too, and they didn't tell me that neat story - I would have enjoyed...

    Happy I Found This

It's a funny thing, Steve, but when a man's got heartburn, and a woman holds up a box of baking soda, he forgets where he got the heartburn, lol ;)

    Book Reviews

Linder recommended Audible to me awhile ago, and I've become a regular junkie, lol. Lacking an iPod, I download, then burn to CD, (now there's a Garmin Nuvi on my list, that plays Audible books) and they sure make the miles fly by. (Note: try not to get so engrossed in the story that you miss...

    Happy I Found This

Sure we did, Layoutshooter....but only in private msgs, on account of we're polite, that way.:D (Except for the Col, of course) I remember someone posting the question "What are landing gear?" and no one replied "This is expediting - sometimes we have to fly!" Some may have been restrained by...

    Roadcheck 2008

When PA does it they really do it. And they might do it when you least expect it, too . I was pulled off a SR in Pa, back when I drove t/t, for a 'surprise' inspection. (It wasn't just me, they were pulling every truck over, & I passed, no problem) Agree with Broom, that inspections are a...

    Medications / Rules

I was diagnosed as ADD (but not hyperactive, darn it) a year ago, when I realized that normal folks don't whip out a brush & start dusting the dashboard, when a red light lasts more than 5 seconds. Once it came to my attention, I realized that I've been ADD my whole life, but it...

    Driving for a Fleet Owner

Col, I think the Hawk would be the first to say that he hasn't got it all figured out yet. Far as the 'same composer, way different tune these days', most of us are learning as we go here. If we haven't learned everything you know, it's probly because we're not as old as you are, eh?:p

    Bolo

Much obliged, Eagle River - but isn't that niece a bit young to go shopping? :p She sure is a cutie pie, though! I'll find some, one of these days...a few years ago, they were everywhere, and now, they're not (well, everywhere I go, at least), but they'll be back, I'm sure. Maybe I'll just try...

Mypie: could you elaborate a bit, as to what kind of questions you'd ask the fleet mgr, if you could?

    You've been where?

I took some audio equipment to Aspen, Colorado, a few months ago, to the X Games - that was a pretty cool one. (Freezing, actually:rolleyes:) It took a long time to get unloaded, so I got to wander around the Aspen Inn a bit, & see some of the downhill skiers in action. I thought about...
