    Not so Swift

Knowing where the next turn will occur is just one benefit of the GPS units, or directions from the computer: you know which lane you will need to be in, and when. Don't leave home (or anywhere else) without it!

    Three strikes and you're out.

Another point: as the Reverend cited "the incompatibility of human anatomy" (with an anatomical description that was unneeded, and in extremely poor taste, besides), I'd like to remind him that what the human body was designed for does NOT include spending a majority of our time in a seated...

Investigating complaints of discrimination based upon gender, for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, no doubt. ;)

    free 411......supposedly

I've called the free 411 number several times, (usually to get a customer phone number, when the one provided turns out to be someone's voicemail, and I can't find their street on the Garmin, Streets & Trips, or the atlas), and the voice recognition program never seems to understand what I'm...

    Where are all the companies?

Except for signing on & going to orientation, does the location of the carrier make any difference?

    CTX...Good Company to work for?

Rv: you didn't mention whether you are satisfied with your current carrier, except for the lack of miles, but if you are, I'd think very hard about switching. It costs money to change carriers, and if the problem is strictly insufficient miles, you may be jumping from the frying pan into the...

Barney: been there, done that, got the t shirt (and a nice oxford, too - Lawrence does things with style, you know:)) While there is no group I'd rather be part of, I'm happy to be just another one of the peanut gallery, now. :D

    Oops!

The way I read it, the "too much fun drinking" was meant to explain the impaired judgment that led to the failed drug screen, not the failure itself. As for the original question, I've never even heard of the Second Chance program, and can only suggest asking the recruiters for a response.

July 4th slowdown and the shutdowns

I don't have skewers, as it happens - I have shishkebaskets, instead, so the lil pieces-parts don't fall into the coals, ya know. Great for shishkebob, (and for keeping the olives in the martini, if you have a really BIG glass), terrible for dipsticking. :p And I have a load, picking up...

    Who's Responsible

Ok, Dave - but "not knowing who's paying the bill", or what the payment will be, when booking the load, seems a pretty strange way to do business to me...And a 75% reduction in the quoted FS is a very major difference - enough to have turned down the load, when offered. I stand behind my...

    Not so Swift

Hawk, please explain the logic behind charging someone with a preventable accident, because another driver wanted to be in the same space, at the same time - I don't get it. The part of the story that jumped out at me, was the part about signaling a turn only after it's in progress - this is a...

    Who's Responsible

As it is the responsibility of whomever books the load to determine who is to be billed, what the carrier is saying is "We dropped the ball/made a mistake/screwed up, but you're going to pay for it." I think ....um.....NOT! I can't see why anyone would work for or with anyone whose word...

July 4th slowdown and the shutdowns

I'm heading to Ft Wayne tomorrow, (to Bentz, for repairs), and if I don't get a load out on Thursday, I'll be looking for someplace to cook out - got any suggestions, McClain? (Besides the truckstop, I mean) Susie will be there, too, if she doesn't get out of Indy, and we are planning a...

To quote a favorite member, "Judy, your just a darlin!" (Of all the comments lost in the redo here, that's the one I liked the best.) Keep up the good stuff, we enjoy it.

Congratulations on being '4 star' quality - you go, girl! Seriously, you deserve it, and I'm glad you're a part of EO.

I appreciate the risk you take in just being honest here, and hope you keep it up - we need as many different voices and views as we can attract, to be the best. We don't have to agree, but we should at least hear what others have to say, so thanks for speaking up.

    How to cook corn

I like the idea of freezing things in plastic bottles, but not corn, because a bag of frozen corn is my 'emergency icepack' :D PS Star, 7 minutes in boiling water is how I've always cooked fresh corn, and it works for me.

strange people knocking on your door

Unless they're anorexic...... BTW: I love the spotlight idea! :D As a female who is solo, I'm always interested in effective ways to defend myself, especially with a 'weapon' that I don't need to worry about having turned on me, instead. (Or being so scared that I accidentally turn it on myself...

    Three strikes and you're out.

There's an email going round that asks "Whatever happened to the kid on the Mad Magazine cover?" and it shows Alfred E Neumann morphing into GWB, teehee:D PS How come I never see these kinds of things on McCain? He's pretty scary, if you ask me - and his wife looks like she dresses in black...

Samuel, Aristotle mentioned the critical point: what is "worth it" to you, is what we don't know, and therefore, can't answer. Besides researching EO for info on the carrier you're considering, I'd also try to talk to as many current & former drivers as possible. Sure, some may be 'disgruntled'...
