    Thread chatter, ‘The Magnificent Seven’

Do I believe this? Turtle & the Diva banding together to poke people? Listen, we've got some pretty interesting discussions going, so go away & start your own, ok?:D

    why have threads

I'm not offended, I'm concerned - I don't want EO to become a site that makes potential members and lurkers feel unwelcome, not part of the 'in group', or whatever, and too much personal chat has that effect, IMO. I like Diva's suggestion of a chat room - or maybe a chat thread?

    why have threads

Juju, in the normal course of things, no one would have the need to tell you how or where to speak - but what we're trying to point out is that too many posts that are off topic and/or personal are not the normal course of things. Like when ChefDennis was flooding the Soapbox with cut & paste...

    why have threads

Control? Agenda? When a handful of members get in the habit of dominating threads with off topic personal chat, and others POLITELY ask them to dial it down a notch or two, you see that as controlling? And what's their agenda? To make EO boring? Explain, please - I don't get it.

Some of us are. Others, not so much. ;)

    What do you call someone

I always thought that if I posted some of the things I wonder, I'd get banned, but since it seems to be ok, maybe I'll start. It'll be interesting, at least.;)

    What do you call someone

Ok, it IS funny [meaning odd] that LOS can so successfully avoid/evade hearing the obvious. And RLENT's post was funny, too [meaning hilarious] :D because it was deserved, IMO.

    What do you call someone

I could use a laugh about now - what's funny? Expecting the moderators to enforce the standards? Or expecting LOS to make sense? Never mind - half of what you write makes no sense to me, either, sigh.

And your idea of 'improvement' is to selectively admonish some folks, while overlooking the greater fault [because moderators have a greater responsibility to uphold the standards] of others? You seriously think that will encourage respect among the members?

Monticello is high on my list of must see places. :)

    What do you call someone

What about the moderator who created the thread, solely to flame a member, and invite others to jump in & help? I don't blame the member who waited in vain for someone to step in, because I'd have responded the same way if I'd been flamed by a mod, and nothing happened to him.

    What do you call someone

"Silly" is not anything like what I'd call it. The moderators need to be an example. In this instance, the mod was an example of unacceptable behavior, and that's where you should start. [As did this thread.]

    why have threads

Speaking for myself, that's not true. I showed respect to those folks [including your spouse] by sending PMs, quite awhile ago, requesting some restraint on the chatting. I politely explained why, because I like the individuals involved, and have no desire to embarrass or upset them, but thought...

    What do you call someone

Had your comments been directed to the OP, it wouldn't have got to the point it did. PS You really need to read the whole thread before jumping to conclusions, you know - some comments are gratuitous, and some are provoked. This was assuredly the latter.
  15. cheri1122

    why have threads

Ok Zak, I'll bite: a thread is a division of a Forum, created to discuss a particular subject, solicit replies to a question, or to pass along info [such as a warning]. Each definition includes the subject of the thread: one particular subject, in each case. Not having threads would be a mess...

    What do you call someone

And you don't see that the original question was even worse? Not only did it 'ridicule another member', it invited others to join in on the fun! That would be bad enough from anyone, but coming from a moderator, it was unacceptable. As is your outrage now, while ignoring the egregious insult...

    congratulation LOAD1

What used to be cool about this site was all the current expediting related info available, and the creativity of a few [check out the classic "Blinker Fluid" by Moot] and the genuine wit of the humor. And Dakota: no one has yet explained how exactly one decides whether they like the posts...

    Thread chatter, ‘The Magnificent Seven’

When this issue was first raised awhile back, the response from Admin was to move the non-banter thread to the Loading Dock [or Layover, I forget], which was exactly the opposite of what belonged where. The handful of [very] active members who insist on posting chatty things that should be PMs...

stolen van AND MY DOG 2 YEAR OLD YORKIT

I just arrived in Rockwall, {Polly said to go ahead, she'll add the DH to my next load:)}. I called the motel to tell Jeff I'd be available tomorrow, [the Motel 6 number's on my phone], but not knowing his room number or last name, didn't get through. And I don't even want to think about why the...

In the Soapbox, we don't give a plugged nickle for our post counts or carriers, it's about the issues. The one liners are just lagniappe. :D
