Compromises lead to tentative highway bill deal

They dropped the mandate, but the battle continues, courtesy of the FMCSA. It will be decided & appealed a lot more times before it's over, count on it. I like the Republican's stance, except for the crack about "wasting money planting flowers". Planting flowers is NOT wasting money! ;)

Can you explain what TEANA is fighting for, exactly?

Administrator Anne Ferro - Crash Responsibility

I applaud your patience, but those of us who were logging prior to the HOS change of 03 have been telling them that it isn't working, but they're not hearing us. I didn't get to MATS last year, but I did submit comments on the FMCSA's website requesting them, twice, and I put a lot of effort...

Linder, I'd be glad of it too, if I thought it'd get the drivers' concerns across [the carriers can afford lobbyists and lawsuits to get her attention], but so far, Ms Ferro has disregarded the drivers. I just don't feel optimistic about someone who cites an accident in support of a new law...

I'm guessing yours didn't rat you out for skipping class, cause mine was no pal, lol. ;)

Administrator Anne Ferro - Crash Responsibility

FMCSA appears to be practicing the same approach to unhappy constituents that politicians have found so effective: keep producing new subjects for contention, and they give up arguing on the earlier ones. [Drivers are still contending with the loss of the split sleeper provision that makes us...

Organizing the pot luck cookout @ the Expo

If you're planning to bring a side dish, dessert, or beverage to the driver's cook out that traditionally ends the Expo, please let the organizers know what to expect in this thread. It might be cool to have all desserts, but we're thinking it really ought to be a little more balanced, sigh. I...

    warrning bad owner

If you want to help others, this isn't the way to do it. The info you provide is too vague, and so sloppily written it makes us wonder whether you were as careless in performing your contract requirements - or whether you even read [and understood] it. Maybe you did, but this post only indicates...

    See ya

The chance to get Maine lobster, in Maine, Philly cheesesteaks in Philly, jambalaya in New Orleans, BBQ in KC, Texas, Memphis, conch fritters in the Keys - ok, not many loads to the last one, but it could happen! The hours to drive through the night with an excellent story playing on audio...

WNY Expediting... Drive first, or buy Sprinter?

IMO, getting your own authority is no place to start in expediting - if you haven't the know how to get loads, get paid, and deal with the licensing, legal, & regulatory issues, you can be drowning in debt & paperwork before you get paid for the first mile driven. If you feel you can cover all...

    See ya

I totally agree that tailgating & cutting vehicles off is dangerous and stupid - I just don't agree that the t/ts are doing the majority of it, or that they're going downhill @ 80 - I can't do that in a s/t! Like I said: you are clearly burned out - time to do something else, before your anger...

Um, I'm pretty sure that saving their brakes is a big part of considering their [and everyone else's] safety. Really - they can't go up any faster, and the '80 downhill' is a bit of exaggeration, I think. It sounds like you've just totally burned out on living on the road, and I can understand...

Thanks for the memories, Ladies and Gentlemen! Out of a job!

If you drive for someone else, you can still be an independent contractor, because I am, and so are many others. We are not employees, there are no contributions to any pension/retirement plans, other than what we arrange ourselves.

Everyone's said it all already, except for one little thing: what would a "considerate" 18 wheel driver do, in your opinion?
