    Won't receive the freight

UPS isn't at fault here. It's the company that's refusing the freight. I won't mention their name. The Panther bid board is a board for outside carriers where they put loads that they can't cover in house. You have to have a login to view the loads on there.

    Won't receive the freight

That really wasn't the shipper. The owner of the freight was the original shipper and I never listed their name. So I probably shouldn't have mentioned the folks with the brown trucks?

    Won't receive the freight

I delivered in Vegas Friday and didn't get a load out that day, so I figured on sitting for the weekend. The other day I saw a local run listed on the Panther bid board, just a 15 mile run across town, and I put in a bid and got it for a darn good amount of money for that short a run. It was...

Do you know what it cost for you to operate?

I don't understand how someone would go into business and not know what it costs to do business. I use my cpm religiously when figuring out what I can bid on a load. I figure when all expenses are taken into account, my profit margin should be more than what a company driver would get for the...

Do you get sick of the food?

I like to find a park with those grills in the picnic area and cook enough meat to last a few days. Then I buy some raw vegetables and I'm set. I eat out occasionally, but usually at a decent restaurant.

70 cents a mile including fuel?

I'd deadhead out of there before I'd take garbage like that. I'll sometimes run LTL to cover fuel, but never an expedite at an LTL rate.

    Chevrolet HCV

Yep, the new Sprinters are a bit larger. My '07 is a 170" wb and it's pretty large. I've been wondering for a couple years why other manufacturers didn't make a larger van to compete with Sprinters. If these take off and they eventually make one as big as the big Sprinters, could we see...

    What happened to long runs?

Call it right place right time, but since this thread was started, I've done nothing but decently long runs with next to no deadhead. That won't happen often, but it's nice when it happens. I left Chicago and went to Laredo. Then I had a pick up in Laredo just a few hours later for Kansas...

    How Far To Far

I saw that Brownsville to Brownsville for 788 miles on the Panther bid board the other day. I was wondering who ended up with that load and why it showed as that many miles. I just got done fueling in Waco and I'm headed up to KC for a morning drop. It was in the mid 90s yesterday in Laredo...

    What happened to long runs?

There is no place in this country I won't take a load to, provided the rate is enough. That's what it boils down to for me. If it's to a bad freight area where I might have to deadhead to get something else, I'm wanting more money or I'm not going there. I don't mind the east coast at all...

    What happened to long runs?

I had one of those last week and managed to squeeze $200 out of the broker for that one. That doesn't happen often. Then just when I am feeling that I haven't had a long one in a while I got one from Chicago to Laredo that I just dropped out this morning. I dropped that one at 8:00 am and...

    Coming Back.....

That's assuming you're getting enough work to be able to afford the pot roast. I thought we're all supposed to be starving out here. Anyway, I've found that when I'm at a truck stop that has a fair number of expediters hanging around, there is still quite a bit of friendly social...

    What happened to long runs?

Out of all those "don'ts" the only one I don't have is hazmat. I gladly go to the northeast and Chicago because I always seem to get loads out of there. I just got one from Chicago to Laredo, so there are some long van runs out there, just few and far between. Speaking of that, I'll be...

    question

I have an '07, 170" wb extended. I measured 12' from the back door and built a plywood wall reinforced by 2x4s. That left me about 40" from the front of that wall to the front seats. I found a mattress that's 24" wide and fits lengthwise along that wall. I made a frame for the mattress out...

    fuel surcharges

Ok, what I was really driving at was this. Let's assume just for the sake of my example that the money I mentioned is what is going to the driver. As a driver you see two loads available, same mileage, both going to a good location, etc. One load is paying a lower rate with a FSC and the...
