I can't speak for the smaller vans. I'm running a Sprinter and doing ok lately. Things were somewhat slow over the winter, but the last month has been pretty good.
I know there's more freight in a straight and for that reason I would maybe advise someone to go that route, but for me the...
Until I find another truck stop chain that gives shower credits to van drivers, I'll usually gravitate toward the J wherever I happen to be. Anyway, I won't be here long anyway. I'm picking up in the morning and headed to Chicago.
I just delivered in Knoxville and I'm now at the J at exit 369. Lots of vans and trucks here. Any EO folks in any of them? I'm in the Sprinter with my name on the side. Nap time for an hour or two.
Texas Land & Cattle is also pretty good. I know they're in Dallas and San Antonio, not sure about other cities. Montana Mikes is decent too. It's a national chain, but the one in Laredo is close enough to a grocery that I've seen trucks parked at and it's a decent enough steak.
I've always had good luck out of there, at least recently. I sat three days once, but the last three times I've been there I've gotten back out the same day. The last time it was to Kansas City.
Yep. I've never had a bad experience with them, unlike some other brokers I won't mention that take forever to pay. As far as large carriers, I find them pretty agreeable to deal with.
Get partner agreements with some of the larger carriers. I get the occasional run down there that way. Not a lot, but occasionally. Maybe deadhead over to Chicago. A lot more running out of there these days.
I just got something out of the west coast, believe it or not. I had to deadhead from Vegas to San Diego, but I got something heading to Nashville. I think I'll just drop in Nashville and deadhead home because I haven't seen my house or my wife in a month.
I've gotten so used to using a bluetooth that even when I'm not driving I use it constantly. Heck, even when I'm home I don't like to use the home phone because I don't like having to hold it.
When I first went independent, I was still leased on to a carrier. They knew I was getting my authority and they were ok with it. It was a pretty good arrangement because I was able to get loads from them and book my own loads as well. It also gave me something of a safety net while I figured...
Well, fuel is easy to calculate because that doesn't depend on how many miles you run. I figure it based on 2000 miles a week and that's not too far fetched because many weeks I will do that many miles if I figure in the deadhead miles. Do more and the cpm is a little lower, fewer miles and...
I wish I was in Detroit because that would mean I would only be 250 miles from home and I would be on the way to the house. I've been out a month and I'm getting a little homesick. If I can get a load to within 300 miles I'll probably just head home from there.
Ok, I've answered this question a half dozen times the last couple days so here it is for the record.
The Panther bid board I have mentioned is not a board that is used by people leased on to Panther. It is a board where they put loads that they are brokering out to outside carriers...
How about all the date that shows that it's actually unsafe to have one segment of the vehicles on the road travelling at significantly slower speeds than the others? If you want to slow down the trucks, I'd lower the speed limits for cars as well and put everyone at the same limit. Get rid of...
Speaking from experience, I have never gotten a good load off the Panther board when there was another Panther van in the area. I've gotten some short ones that the Panther drivers turned down, but when that happens they have to pay me more than what they would have paid their driver. It's in...
Problem solved. After a few phone calls and a bit of negotiating, I managed to get an extra $100 to take it straight to the convention center and I'm working on detention pay as well. This might turn out to be a profitable little morning. It was only 9 miles to the convention center and I've...
