Freight lane: another term for an area that is saturated with trucks leased on to large carriers where rates are lower due to excessive competitive bidding. I try to stay out of them myself.

That situation drives the overall rates down, which affects the profit margin at the carrier, which eventually affects the rates given to owner operators. I fail to see how that is in anyone's best interest.

The companies that will allow this are smaller companies that rely on brokered freight, so they're all drawing from the same freight sources. If you're the only truck in a certain area, how does it benefit you to have multiple companies bidding against each other for the same load?
