    Company ?????out Allience Express

The companies that would allow that rely primarily on brokered freight and they all look at mostly the same boards.

    Company ?????out Allience Express

Rarely does that arrangement actually result in more load opportunities. If a van is signed on with 3 companies that are all seeing the same freight, all that does is drive the rates down with those companies bidding against each other to move the same van.

    Those radical NY greenies

I'm seeing a business opportunity here. You open up a place near the truck stops in these states and you keep a large stock of hamsters, gerbils, and other small furry critters and truckers can rent one for a day or two to keep in the truck so they can idle.

I'm in Buffalo, doing my part to annoy New York anti idling greenies.

    Those radical NY greenies

And when I'm sleeping, I'm recharging my batteries, so I figure that counts too. You have to be comfortable. I run in New York a lot, more than most expediters, and I've never had a problem. I sleep at Wal Mart a lot out on Long Island and nobody has ever bothered me there.

    Those radical NY greenies

I spend a lot of time in and out of New York and I have yet to be bothered. My sprinter idles pretty quietly, so maybe that has something to do with it.

what is the word on loads for cargo vans?

We've started getting a little more on van freight lately as well. I'm cautiously optimistic at the moment, kind of hoping I can continue to get a little more, if for no other reason than the price of fuel going up. I'm upping the rates to the vans when I can get more on the load, which isn't...

    Favorite Places to Eat

Bob's Clam Hut in Kittery, ME. I really like whole fried clams, and there are a few other clam shacks scattered over New England that I'm fond of, but Bob's is one of the best. Texas Land & Cattle, pretty darn good steak houses with several locations in Texas.

    Carrier Awards/Rewards

I have a pretty simple reward program. You do a load and I pay you. Maybe I could expand on that somewhat.

    Truckstops and cleanliness

I won't do the buffet at any of these places anymore, or even at Golden Corral for that matter, since I've seen on more than one occasion customers reaching in and grabbing things with their bare hands. That's why they put spoons in there, but apparently that concept is too difficult for a lot...

GM, brokered freight and a lawsuit

Who wrote this article? CHAT is a freight forwarder, not a carrier. Moving freight on another company's trucks is what they do. If GM didn't know that, whose fault is that? Shouldn't the cargo insurance of the hauling carrier cover this? I just fail to see how a freight forwarder can be...

Would you still do this job if you were paid by the hour?

It doesn't really matter how people call your pay, it still comes down to doing the math do determine if a load is really profitable. You know how much time it will take you to do the load, how many miles the load is, and what it's going to cost you to do it. You know what they're paying you...

    10 miles, $140

There are a lot of factors to consider there. If I'm at home, I'm probably going to do that and just come back home. Making some decent money and still ending up at the house at the end of the day is pretty good. If I'm away from home, I have a few rules I consider. Am I in a good area where...

    All state express

Well, I'm giving them another chance Monday. I'm headed home right now and since I live in what is normally a tough area to get out of and they have a load Monday headed to an area I always do well out of, I figured it was a good risk. After I drop Monday I will be in an area where I will have...
