    Mish mash of stuff

I waved at you Jack, I was on the other side with the 3 open lanes, getting blown away by others as well. World goes by fast enough for me at 57.

    Re: Medical Certificates

I think we need better enforcement of the kinds of laws that deal with how we drive such as tailgating, lane changes etc, this is really tough as an officer has to be there to catch it but here is why I think it would go a long way. If people think they are going to get caught, fined, loose...

New Truck Engine Costs To Rise $9,000-$10,000

Assuming 5% better fuel economy, Payback in years for $10,000 extra cost. for a 7mpg tractor (now) at $3 gal fuel = 4.9 yr payback at $4 gal fuel = 3.6 yr payback at $5 gal fuel = 2.9 yr payback for a 10mpg straight truck (now) at $3 gal fuel = 6.9 yr payback at $4 gal fuel = 5.24 yr payback...

New Truck Engine Costs To Rise $9,000-$10,000

At least this time the fuel economy will get better, the upcharge in engines will be regained (slowly in some cases) by the enhanced fuel economy that SCR engines (everyone except International) will deliver.

    Border ban angers Mexico truckers....

'Tis OK sir.....I have spent every vacation dollar I have in your neck of the woods for the last 10 years......(well sort of, does Bristol count?) I would much rather spend time with my freinds in East Tennessee than to spend it in Toronto. People like OVM come from Toronto!:D

    Border ban angers Mexico truckers....

And they should be stopped from doing so and banned from trucking in the US for ever!! Open the scales in the US and enforce the laws already on the books! I wouldn't care if I got stopped 3 times a trip if it meant that people who broke the laws got caught. It happens up here as well...

Is there something I can do? (load transfer)

There must be a place to go and get longer runs and no 'Cheater Rates".............................................................................. Let us know when you find it.

    Border ban angers Mexico truckers....

The U.S. gets easy access to our oil, and we get to haul freight that either originates or delivers into Canada, which is what....2% of the total trucking industry in the U.S.? I think you guys win on that one. You will get a favourable response up here though, as many Canadian companies are...

    charging batteries, a finer detail

I know Turtle will chime in with the correct info but, with my charger, bulk is the voltage it uses when it is taking the batteries back up to 90% then it goes into absorption/float to gently put in the last bit and hold it steady. I believe mine is 14.5 bulk and then 14.3 float (on the AGM...

Is there something I can do? (load transfer)

The way the system decides transfer points is pretty screwy at best. I get a lot that are small loads that will route both of us to Grand Island NY, FX has a guy there who does transfers so the system just routes both vans there (and it is out of the way and costs toll$$). If I see it is small I...

Turnpike decides to roll out E-ZPass, new rates on Oct. 1

OVM puts the transponder in his "special" shorts. Even the CIA can't get through those.

Turnpike decides to roll out E-ZPass, new rates on Oct. 1

Do you get dinged as an "overheight" vehicle with your NY transponder, that is you pay the same as a straight truck because you are 2 axles and over 7 foot 6 in height? That was a real p off the first time I had to pay as class 2H instead of class 2.

Turnpike decides to roll out E-ZPass, new rates on Oct. 1

I guess the next question is, we have several states we can get an EZ Pass compatible transponder from.....which one is the best deal for a van or Sprinter? I was thinking of doing mine thru Illinois but will now look at OH. OVM, didn't you tell me once there was an advantage for a Sprinter in...

    Michelin Tire

Michelin occasionally releases tires to their fleet customers that are a bit off spec and they get branded as DUO. Basically it is a tire that is OK but is not perfect. Generally they are steer tires and are sold as OK to use in any other position except steer (the most critical tire you have)...

    Lost my last grandparent yesterday

Sorry for your loss Charles. Next time you are rolling across the empty plains at night pull over and look up, I do, and I am filled with the contentment of knowing I am being watched over by the kind faces past. It gives me peace.

    AC condeser coils

If it is the condenser it is high pressure in and out, the low pressure is in the evaporator. They are not worth getting fixed usually as the risk of a leak and discharge is quite high. The high side of a system can easily hit 250 psi. That is pretty hard to braze especially on the thin cheap...
