I like how people, usually men, call their spouses 'ball and chain', as if they would be held back from some greatness, like winning a Nobel prize, or something. My wife is a kite string. She allows me to fly, without getting taken away. When the wind gets turbulent, she reels me back to earth.

I spent yesterday, between dropping off the kids and picking them up, grabbing some maple. The tree service posts when and where they're going to be on craigslist, and usually a handful of guys show up for the freebie. I filled my pickup twice. Of course, it would have to rain today, when I feel...
