Are many retail jobs slowly coming to a end?

Sadly, many will price themselves right out of job. As competition and employee costs rise, it does nothing but make this technology more attractive. It will create jobs, but just for the ones that can fix & build the robots. The writing is on the wall.

    Dear Expediters, help

Outside of the insurance requirements, many carriers are going the route of requiring CDL's for van drivers. That is a potential problem in your situation if they have language barriers.

    The madness of Fergerson

You are entitled to that opinion. If the motive is to win an argument, then provide the facts that support your position and you will have the results you seek. If it is just your opinion, then you have to be open to others who may disagree. As some would say, "keep it pithy".

    Dear Expediters, help

In their eyes, they look at you like a carrier and would want them under your policy. Better to chase a carrier than a individual. They as I would also look at that and say, "Why not have the contractor set up with us directly as a partner carrier"? Of course the answer would be you want a cut...

    The madness of Fergerson

That was his opinion, and you can provide yours. Just keep it civil. That doesn't mean either one has to agree. You are putting too much effort into being offended. Opinions of others are not necessarily a "attack". There is a difference.

    Dear Expediters, help

Probably won't like my answer, but here goes. Many changes with regards to insurance are upon us. Carriers as well as shippers don't won't the exposure/liability of a under insured operator. Too many bad things have happened and the industry has woke up. The upside is it pushes out a lot of the...

Are many retail jobs slowly coming to a end?

Very true. They have them in our Walmart. One of their employees said they were starting to change out certain types of shelving to accommodate these robots so employees wouldn't be needed to stock shelves. Especially at night. The shelves do and show any price or price changes, and it tells a...

    Small Fleet Owner

Finding and hiring someone who is. Not a endeavor to jump into unless you have some type of background in this business. Odds of success would be much better in Vegas. Kind of like opening a restaurant and not knowing the first thing about cooking. As suggested, I would drive the vehicle you...

Sometimes that is just a front. Several times I have seen carriers say pay 1.20 per mile on the line haul, and add .10 cents on the backside. That is paid separately to the fleet owner.

Are many retail jobs slowly coming to a end?

In this instance, I think it is more warehouse oriented. I don't think one would have to go far from adapting many of these into your local Walmart. It won't replace every position, but it will certainly cut the amount of people needed to run a store. On the fast food side, McDonalds is testing...

Are many retail jobs slowly coming to a end?

Found this interesting today from Amazon. Using robots to basically replace employees. Looks like they have found an answer to that "We want 15 dollars an hour". Meet Amazon's busiest employee -- the Kiva robot - CNET

In many carriers eyes, both are disposable. The difference being it costs them more to replace fleet owners. Some will say it is because they have more invested. That is partially true, but the reality is that it also costs the carrier when a fleet moves out.

Since you are new, you might not have realized that this specific forum (Soapbox) and a couple others are for subjects generally outside of trucking. Other forums are trucking/expedite specific and are listed accordingly.

I didn't say you were. I was referring to our driver. Everyone is judged. How one reacts to it is what makes the difference.
