    checking prices for sprinter parts

I checked the Sprinter out very carefully. It will end up being one EXPENSIVE cargo van for the long run compared to the domestic vans. Plus I highly doubt your local mechanic will touch it, so it's off to Mr. Ripoff Freightliner dealer.

    Ford E350/Powerstroke Diesel

I guess only time will tell the tale for the Sprinter's MB 2.7 in heavy duty USA service. But I can guarantee one thing- repair costs will be HUGE by comparison to the International built Powerstroke. -Weave-

    50 series Detroit

I don't run a series 50 (yet), but have heard only good things about it. It is essentially a series 60 minus two cyl., and has a balance shaft. I have heard from other expediters running them who currently claim 750k basically trouble free miles. I will run either a series 50 (Currently only...

    need info

The FL70 and FL80 are virtually identical. The FL80 does not have a thicker frame, and is not a class 8 truck. Most FL80's are Canadian issued FL70's, containing a CAT 3126. Avoid 3126 eqiped trucks for expedited use. -Weave-

Just finished my first 3 weeks as a van expediter

RE: Just finished my first 3 weeks as expediter AWWW, come on.. It doesn't all suck!.. Just most of it sucks, most of the time.... the good part is that you get so used to suckiness that when something good happens to you it's like a double decker ice cream cone! After a while the rude...

    Ford E350/Powerstroke Diesel

I know the old rumor is true, that Ford trannies suck. One fellow I talked to had a Ford gas van with over 1 million miles on it. He said he goes through 3 trannies for every engine! The reason I am considering the E350 is I know the Powerstroke is a great engine, and I can (fortunately)...

    Ford E350/Powerstroke Diesel

Can anyone out there who is running a Ford E350 van with Powerstroke diesel tell me your average highway MPG? I am considering running one of these in addition to my D unit and just want to "crunch some numbers" for business purposes. Also, have you had any major ($500+) repairs out of...

    NEED INFO ON LANDSTAR

I have yet to meet anyone doing expediting for Landstar to stay with them for too long. Seems like their "Road to Success" is more like "The road to oblivion." The people I know who run tractor-trailers with them do fairly well, but I don't think their system works too well for expedite. Put...

    PICK ONE

I know a fellow who drives a company truck for USxpress. He is happy with the company, and does a dedicated run which they have a lot of. He gets home every other day. -Weave-

    Typical monthly cost

I am just getting back on this post as I calculate all this garbage for taxes. All the expenses on my '95 D unit (fuel, maintenence, repairs, insurance, fuel taxes, registration, etc.) come to around $2100.00 a month. Add to this my $1000.00 a month truck payment, plus some other business...

    Feelin sorry for ya....

Way I figure it if you are going to be a trucker you have to find the type of trucking that works right FOR YOU. In your instance, the tractor-trailer is your best bet, but wouldn't work out too well for others such as myself. I was even looking at all the expenses involved in running my D...

    More questions

The place I run for doesn't classify "c" units, but I think FedEx did it something like this when I ran there.. 16-18 foot box good for 6 pallets, 5000lb. load capacity. There are a lot of trucks out there, big or small, you could set up to do this on anything from a cube van chassis up to a...

    Pete 330

The Pete 330 is a great truck, but not with the CAT 3126. The 330 and KW T300 could be optioned like Freightliners with either the 3126 or Cummins ISC. Like a Freightliner (if you wanted one) find one with the ISC, it is a much safer investment than a CAT 3126 equipped truck for not much more...

    Keeping the glass clean.

Best summertime glass cleaner I have found is Fantastik- desolves the bugs like acid with minimal clouding. I use clean DRY cotton rags to clean mirrors in the winter. A bit O' spit gets the salt off, and if kept dry they don't cloud up during trips with extreme temperature changes. Don't use...

    FEDEXCC LAYOVERS

GEO has the wintertime expedite thing down to an art as I do- That is simply expedite trucking 101, rule #1.. DON'T SIT! If there is nothing to do, go home and sit and you will be much happier. Think of the deadhead home as an investment in your own sanity.. plus a lot fewer quarters in the...

Update on Drivers Daily Log Program

Thanks for letting me know- you introduced me to it, and I have been one of the people who has been instrumental in making it become legal. DDL is simply awesome!! DOT inspectors actually want to see logs like this now as they are logs they can actually read. How are things going for you after...

    GOT A CALL TODAY.....

It's possible to make it, and spring is on its way and things pick up. As "newbies" DO NOT go out and buy an expensive truck to start out with. Truth is, EVERYONE I know up to this point who did went down for the count, and did so very fast. It is a painful and embarassing experience, and I am...
