    D unit question

I have consistently grossed around 75-80k a year with my D unit running solo since becoming O/O in 1999. I have ran for various expediting companies. I would figure a team should do at least 100-120k a year, regardless who they are running for. A fairly accurate "ballpark" figure of my...

    Synthetic Oil in Diesel Engine

Here's what I know. Synthetic oils are the best motor oil there is, and this has been proven. They have the most stable viscosity and don't tend to thicken up in the cold or thin out in heat. Excellent for race cars and other extreme duty applications. I would not bother using synthetic oil...

Ether starting in an extreme cold emergency

I did sort of mention that this is for big diesels only- NOT Cat/Cummins 3126/ISC'B's with flame intake heaters. Ether will fry your beards off and ruin these engines if tried- plus void the warranty. The ether start method I mentioned is only for mechanical fuel injection. Works with Cummins...

    Starting out in expedite industry...!?$#?!

You mentioned you will live out of the truck and have no home base. ALWAYS have a home base- a "home terminal", PO BOX, small apartment, somewhere. A place where it is assumed you live. A MUST.

    who's in that truck??!!...and why!

Okay, Olko's sort of right here- It's not all freedom. After 3-4 years though, you do get shower and bathroom privlidges provided your truck payments are made and they are approved by your dispatcher and meet the DOT regulations for proper driver shower temperature and duration! I am of course...

    Worst run?

RE: The Great Battle of Ipsi I (sort of professionally) tried to end the battle there. He stopped and did nothing as I was not "Rover" and was no longer going to obey him. Thinking back, there were two choices- the truck gets unloaded or I pull out. I did not own this truck at the time, so I...

    Sleepers

Don't use an alumi-bunk sleeper. They are inferior quality and insulation wise to "real" sleepers. The 60" on my FL70 was taken used from a Kenworth tractor, it is made by United of Des Moines, IA. They make OEM sleepers for KW tractors that are well insulated, and their climate controls...

    sheet sets

I went to replace the mattress in my 60" united sleeper. It looked to be a twin, so I bought a twin sized innersprung mattress. The width was fine, but it was a little short. I cut some thick foam to fill in the gap, which I built up underneath, where my head goes. I wrapped the whole thing...

    Communication and the CB Radio

One thing I have been trying to get at with my channel 21 thing for expediters is it is only 2 "clicks" up from 19, you can tune to it quickly without looking at the radio itself. I think 30 is just too hard to go up to for a clown :+ like me.
