    Leased on with multiple carriers

They had brokered that leg to an outside carrier most likely and that other carrier apparently wasn't too picky about their equipment.

    Leased on with multiple carriers

John hit the nail on the head. I don't see this as a positive at all. Even if your carrier doesn't allow that, here's what might happen. I have a van sitting in Fort Wayne right now and we're the only carrier he's signed on with. If I see a load posted in that area that I want to bid on, one...

Thompson Reuters News: Panther Expedited Services is for sale

I offered them $3.49, but they turned it down, which seems strange given how much they like cheap bids.

    Sprinter Owners

Mine's an '07 with 380,000 on it, but I haven't been using it OTR for a while. I enjoyed driving it and had a ball when I was out there, but I would second Turtle that you have to be a stickler for proper maintenance with theses things because some of the repairs can be quite costly. The...

Still in Cincinnati. Been here for 5 months straight and not really complaining. I did a 100 mile package delivery with the car the other day.

    Sylectus shippers posting !!

Running a one vehicle operation on your own authority can be profitable doing bid board freight because you're not splitting the revenue with anyone. The real kicker comes when you want to expand as a carrier and quit driving like I did. You have to give drivers a rate that is competitive with...

    Sylectus shippers posting !!

Yes, building relationships is key. I don't think a carrier can make it just on brokered freight from larger carriers, but if you have access to enough 3PLs and you use the other carriers to fill in the gaps, you can keep your trucks rather busy. That's the way we've been operating lately. We...

    Sylectus shippers posting !!

There is a fair amount of freight if you're smart where you keep your trucks. Stay out of overly competitive areas and you get a decent rate. Most of the large carriers post on Sylectus, with the exception of Panther, Tri-State, and Fedex. You just contact the carrier and ask for their...

    What is your position?

That is often the case, and as long as your carrier is using practical miles you aren't going to find yourself shorted that often.

Pilot and Flying J no longer....

If that was the case, then straights that aren't over 26k gross wouldn't be able to fuel there either.

I assume you mean the overflow freight the larger carriers broker out? That would be on Sylectus. Panther, Fedex, and Tri-State don't post on there though. Panther has their own bid board where they put their extra freight and Fedex and Tri-State send emails to their partners. The other...

    Which EO Members...

Nobody. I'm not a cannibal. Let's see. I've met Jefferson, blizzard, 60MPH(R.I.P.), another member who drives for us and will remain anonymous, RLENT stuck a note on my van once when I was sleeping (does that count?), Turtle, Dave Hall, and quite a few others at the expo who's names I don't...

Pilot and Flying J no longer....

The thing I enjoyed the most about spending the summer in a straight was that I didn't have to go to Pilot or Flying J. Petro has nicer showers. Of course now that I'm back home I have better showers, and I don't have to pay $10 or buy fuel to take one.

    Seeking Info on Eagle....

I don't know much about them. We use Coast to Coast Capital out of Berwick, PA. What I like about who we use is that it's a small operation and we're on a first name basis with everyone there. They also don't hold back a reserve like some of the bigger ones do. The downside is that they're a...

    Sylectus shippers posting !!

We subscribe to one non expedite board and this is how we use it. The main thing is that I don't go there expecting to see an expedite load or anything paying close to an expedite rate. I go there if we have a truck in a difficult area to get out of and we want to find a paid relocation...

One of our trucks is heading down to Universal at the moment. The driver told me he has little wooden cutout cartoon characters that are going to be stood near the entrance to one of the rides.

I came across a few of those last week on one of the LTL boards. They had a specific pickup time and delivery time and still wanted an LTL rate. I'm not giving people ribeye and charging them for a hot dog.

    Sylectus shippers posting !!

Which is why I didn't put something in the company name that indicated expedite or fast or any of those kinds of words. Most of what we do is expedite, but I wanted to keep things open for eventually expanding into other kinds of freight. I think a lot of folks think companies are either...

    Sylectus shippers posting !!

First, there are no shippers posting freight on there that I know of, just carriers and brokers, and some of those folks post their truckload and LTL on the other boards like getloaded, etc. That's nothing new. I've been seeing that for years.
