    More troubles

More truck troubles or the joy of being an Owner/Operator. This time the transmission started dropping out of gear when we decelarated. It was raining. It sort of cleared up when things dried out. Took it to the Freightliner in Albany, NY. They said that it was in the J3919(I think that is it)...

    Fan Problem 3

I picked up my truck today and of course it did not work. The air was cold, the fan cycled just fine but I was getting a check engine light. That was not part of my original problem. I took it right back in and they put the reader on it. It came up showing the low pressure sensor not reading. It...

    What a goof up I did !

We accepted one of those "mutiple stop loads" in The Bronx/Manhatten area on purpose. Caught us at a weak monment. We had been sitting for 15 hours and we were getting "itchy" for a load offer. Did not turn out to be too bad. They parked us for 3 days and the customer came to us!! We really...

    Roadcheck 2008

We have found that most officers who have inspected us have been professional and a couple have been even nice!!! We did have a sticker that was good until June but lost that when the windshield was replaced. layoutshooter

    AA / Rigmaster

We are able to leave the sleeper curtains open and still stay cool now, at least so far. Been pretty hot and humid in some places already and they have helped keep the entire cab/sleeper area comfortable. We like leaving the sleeper curtains open as much as we can. Makes it feel like we have a...

Hey Bob and Linda, Jan made us some window shades out of the silver inulation stuff they sell at Lowe's etc. The kind that has air bubbles in it. It totallly blocks the light and has dropped the temp inside by several degrees. It makes our ProHeat work much better on the cooling side. Layoutshooter

    You've been where?

We took the A/V equipment for the German Ice skating team from Atlantic City to St. John's NF. We watched them skate and then loaded each team members things as they came off the ice. We have have run some much better more interesting high profile runs but I would have to kill you if I told...

    Fan Problem 3

Yea, I bet they do the work for free if it does not fix it. That has only EVER happened once in my entire life and it was with this truck. The Detroit Diesel in Caton looked at this problem and did not charge me for the work since they could not fix it. There were contaminates, the reason for...

    What a goof up I did !

Yep, been there and done that. I try to make small talk to wake up a bit if it comes in by phone or just take as long as I can for a Clink offer. Bet I screw up more too. I am good at things like that. By the way, who gave you permission to make my kind of mistake? Layoutshooter

    Fan Problem 3

I put the truck into the shop at the Freightliner in Orlando on thursday. I talked with them today. They said the the "expansion valves" need replaced, as does the dryer filter. They are flushing the system as well. Price tag is under $700. They assure me that this will fix the problems I am...

    Recession and Prosperity

Greq, yes Detroit is lacking in infrastructure. I do know that there has been an upswing in housing sales due to the low prices. Investers are buying up cheap houses, uses them for rentals for now intending to sell them when prices recover. Which they will. There are also some high tech...

Is there a formula on how far moving axles lightens the load? It would help to know how far they would need moved to take the weight off the steers. Layoutshooter

I see where you rears are, I was thinking about doing that with mine. That or just run with the lift axle down. I will have to do some more work on the scales when I get home. It is just too darn nose heavy. Layoutshooter

    Recession and Prosperity

I guess I just don't see things the same way as some do. This is NOWHERE as bad as it was in the mid - 70's and not even close to 1958. Depression? I don't see it. There are problems but unless we have massive tax increases things will work out on there own. Everyone just needs to turn off thier...

    Axle weights

Reefer is a belly mount, it is a typical Alumi-Bunk truck. Yes, the lift gate is aluminum. Don't know about changing out the axle. Would I still not need a tire rated for the weight? The "H" tires I have are only 6610. I would need 7000 or 7500 per tire. Does anyone make a tire like that for a...

    Axle weights

I think when I weight it I will get two weights, one with the lift axle up and one with the axle down. I want to see just how much dropping that axle takes off the front. Utah said is was fine that way but just passed us through, did not get a weight with it down. Layoutshooter

GVW with gear and fuel is right at 28,000lbs. It is a "D" unit, TVAL. According to the sticker on the door the GVW is 61,000lbs. I have it titled at 48,000. The front axles came in at approximatly 12,900lbs. When we got the overweight fine they said we were at 13,740lbs. The max allowed on the...

The distance between the center of the front axle to the center of the drive axle is 324". There is 116" from the center of the drive axle to the back of the truck. I don't blame Alumi-Junk, I made bad assumptions and now I have to fix it. I won't deal with them again due to a ton of other...
