    Frustrated with expediting

Well into my 8th year with the Fed, and I find myself wondering some of the same things. Still run into drivers who have been around a lot longer than me, but not as often as I used to. A common theme of conversations with them is about how much better it was in the "old days," and not...

    FedEx Custom Critical Rebranding Update

Trucks which had been receiving the bonus percentage continued as "grandfathered." If I had replaced my truck, and therefore executed a new contract (new truck #, etc.) the new contract would have not included the pay. It also would not have required me to pay to put the decals on as I did...

    FedEx Custom Critical Rebranding Update

This means that by the end of the year I must have my billboards removed and give up the additional pay I received for having them, and I can't get the bonus pay since my truck is not "brand standard." Why do I feel that I am being pushed out bit by bit?

What is the most famous Expedite trucks.

Unfortunately, according to a recent email from FedExCC, this truck is no longer "brand standard" and will not be able to wear the FedExCC logo after this year.

    Changing Times in Expediting.

This is close to my analysis of the present pay situation: we are expected to do exclusive use at LTL rates. I don't see this as workable economics for very long. The question is how to communicate to the shippers that if the want the whole truck they must pay for the whole truck and not just...

    White glove equipment

Our liftgate is rated at 2500#. I was commenting just the other day that if I was starting over setting up a truck with what I know now, I'd specify at least 4000# capacity. Too often a quick glance at the pieces and weight makes it appear that my present LG would be overly stressed especially...

Somebody out there owes me a "thank you."

Got an "opportunity" message this afternoon for a run tomorrow from NC to CT. Price came in under my target for the number of miles, and since I don't particularly like running into the Northeast anyway I was disinclined to discount my services. I turned the load down, but gave them an...

Things that make you go, "What?"

Didn't want to rip him off totally for his line, so I modified it. Politely.

    fuel problem

Look for a product called "Seafoam." Several people, including my regular shop, recommended it as the best treatment. I split a gallon into my two tanks and problem went away. It's suggested that tanks be treated one or two times a year with the Seafoam to keep things under control. FYI.

    fuel problem

Had a similar problem a couple of years ago, and we're pretty sure the problem fuel came from a T/A since that's just about the only place we fuel up.

Things that make you go, "What?"

Yeah, I thought about the LA/L.A. thing, too, but it placed my deadhead to p/u at 500 miles, roughly the correct distance between Tucson (where I was headed but from where I was still very far away) and the p/u location. I just laughed it off and went on about my business. Of course, the...

Things that make you go, "What?"

Date: 8/2 Time: 1707 PM Place: Westbound on I-10 east of Lake Charles, LA, scheduled for delivery on 8/3 in Tucson AZ, approximately 24 hours away. Scene: Q-comm announces a load offer. Upon examination load is for pickup 8/2 at 18:10 PM, in a Los Angeles CA suburb, going to near the LAX...

    Dallas

As you have pointed out, the lack of good/great loads coming out of the west these days and the increased dwell time while waiting for even an acceptable load coming back east must be figured in to the overall discussion as well. I took a good load to Nogales, picked up an okay regional...

    California Dry Box

We've switched to a sliding rate scale based on the number of miles in an offer; the more miles the lower the rate I'll consider taking. I call it "bulk rate pricing." $1.59 for that distance would have met or exceeded my current rate for over 1500 miles, so (other than the CA issue) would...

    West Coast Runs Reconsidered

Shortly after you wrote this I was offered a load from Shreveport to near Sacramento. Having read the earlier thread postings I elected to pass on the offer. It came back shortly after with a significant pay boost added, but I still turned it down. We've been back to work just 2 weeks after...

    done with FedEx Custom Critical

"High Speed Rail" is about passenger trains, so unless you're driving a bus, it's not a threat. BTW, the term is actually a misrepresentation of what the gov't is talking about. It should be "higher speed rail" because they're really only talking about faster passenger trains, not true "high...

    Pulling a really small camper

Lowe's changed their paint buckets. Not sure if lids designed for the traditional bucket will fit them anymore.

    West Coast Runs Reconsidered

This thread creates serious concerns for me. I had been hearing from drivers that the delays in getting out of the west were getting worse, but here I see an explanation that is disturbing. After getting hung up in the Northwest last year, I've been very cautious about taking loads west since...

    The Dreaded Black Conspiracy Helicopter

My answer to claims like this is that if no one but the Father knows the time and date, not even the Son, then logically we must conclude that as soon as any person or group claims a specific date we can rule out that date because that "sure knowledge" is ruled out by the Scriptural statement...

    Escrow Interest

I think the problem is not that they don't pay interest (as required by contract) but that the interest rate is currently so low that it might as well be none.
