    Difference in Sprinters

Sprinters from the U.S. tend to win more medals, but the Africans are better at the distance races...oh...never mind. Wrong topic.

Companies that go to New England Alot.

We run in and out of there a bit. Recommended truck, as far as I'm concerned, would be a straight. Too much sitting in the smaller units these days.

Servicing vans from a truck dock

We cross docked some freight yesterday from a Sprinter to a truck. Only problem is we only have a truck dock, so unloading the Sprinter was loads of fun. I've been looking around the internet for options for handling vans from a truck dock and I came across this interesting item. It looks...

Canada Cargo Van heading Empty from Miami Florida Monday Night back to Canada

We get the occasional load to Canada. We don't have any drivers who want to go up there, so I usually end up trying to broker those to Canadian carriers looking to get home. If I spot anything tomorrow, I'll let you know.

Panther Truck chased through several counties near Toledo, OH

How would such an incident affect a small carrier? How will it affect Panther?

    Authority

The short answer is $300 to get the authority. Your insurance will run a bit more as well. The incorporation costs can vary depending on how you go about that. Just shop around on the internet and compare prices with folks like legal zoom and what not. Getting the authority is the easy part...

    Sprinter Wikipedia Entry

Mine had the same sticker. That's a bit less than 3000, especially when you consider the weight of the driver and whatever else is in there.

I had a 2007 long and tall, not a lot of added weight, and the payload was only around 2600 with the fuel full. Was the empty weight much lower on the older ones?

Where do they get that 3000 lb garbage? A 2500 has the same GVW as a 3/4 cargo van, so it has the same payload, which the last time I checked is not 3000 lbs.

    Finally got the forklift

I did learn something yesterday. We have a dock plate but it's not as wide as the back of the truck and it gets somewhat tricky getting the last couple skids on the end of the trailer when you can't maneuver over to the sides too easily because of the size of the dock plate. The side shifter...

    Finally got the forklift

Finally got to use it today. Truck broke down 4 miles away from us. Swapped 8 skids to another straight.

    Accessorial pass through

Technically, if you're on a 70% contract, the carrier is paying you 70%, not charging you 30%. I know, semantics and all that. Just my two cents.

    Accessorial pass through

I personally think detention needs to be higher, not only for the driver, but high enough to be punitive so these shippers and consignees would feel the pinch when they waste a driver's time.

    Accessorial pass through

It is a weird numbers game a lot of the time. We pay our drivers a higher percentage than you make, but you drive for a carrier with more of a base of direct customers than we have at the moment and those loads are paying higher. So your 70% is probably the same as the 80% our drivers get when...

    Accessorial pass through

I understand the logic behind a carrier losing the services of a truck for a period of time, but how does that apply in a brokering type of situation? Also, it's just with some that I've seen the amounts they want to pay decrease in the last couple years. It makes me wonder if they're actually...

    Accessorial pass through

We're seeing a lot of folks, brokers mostly, wanting to pay pretty weird amounts for detention, layover, dry runs, and what not lately. I get the impression that the entire amount isn't being passed through completely and people are skimming off the top every stop along the way. People that...
