What Arkjarhead said is true. Stay away from the lease-purchase programs. 99 out of 100 are out to screw you.

    Do you need more freight?

If I had my own van, I'd sign it on with Panther and look for my own loads under their authority. At least with their loads, plus the ones you'd find, you should stay somewhat busy.

If you're looking to get into OTR, then the roundtable at www.truck.net would be a good place to seek answers. Most companies that take newbies treat them like crap. But there are some that are really good to work for. If you're looking at expediting, everyone has their choice of companies to...

    Yes this is political

I'm surprised I can answer most of the second list of questions that aren't opinion based. I love the question about Bush and Cheney eating from the same potato salad! LMAO :7 :7 :7

I knew of no where else but here to post this

Sorry, Broom... we don't ALL have xm. I'd have to say the NFL channel is on my Sirius about half the time. Great way to learn about the rest of the league. Greg... I know you hate Michigan. But Detroit won't be totally clean til the ppl themselves take pride in what they own. I can't blame the...

    Why sooo many trucks

Yes, they have 1200+ trucks, but are all of them in service at the same time? A lot of ppl fail to realize that only 50-75% of trucks are in service at one time. 550 loads for 600 trucks is more realistic, tho in the good months, 550 loads for 900 trucks seems a little low.

What kind of forums do you want?

What's so different about independant expediters that they need their own forum? And, you're going to talk to the 3 or 4 others on here that run their own freight? Be a little realistic here.

    Accepting every load...

Welcome to the forum, Night. Roberts was definitely a learning experience. You learned about the rules that benefitted the driver from other drivers, as the company never told you. So, anyone who just steered the wheel never caught on. It was fun! :-) There are many times where it's...

Making a home in a box

Travel size? That sounds more like appetizer size. Dogs are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! :9

Isn't it funny how things change?

I have to say, I've been thinking about stuff like that lately. Our second is on the way, and I'm going to have to think seriously about my priorities when he does come. Currently, I make it home about every three weeks. I love spending time with my daughter, but it's hard to tell how things are...

    Accepting every load...

Colonel, I totally agree with that. It took several changes in this field to finally realize both what I'm capable of, and what I can do to make the industry work for me. Experiences from each change have pointed me in the direction I want to go. And, honestly, I have you to thank for learnin me...

    Do you need more freight?

Absolutely not! If you had a 53' van, I'd say you have as good a chance as your work ethic. But there just isn't enough for a one van owner to stay in the black.

I can honestly say he's been hitting more than Barry Bonds, lately. And lately, I've been hitting a double and triple here and there. Sending the RBIs home to the lady is quite rewarding, I must say. Must be the new batting coach. ;)

    FLLET ONE TRUCKERS ADVANTAGE

Leo... curious as to how you got three numbers in a row at Panther. Did they reissue numbers?

    Good Luck to all

Race, for what it's worth, don't worry bout the thin skinned folk, as you'll find them anywhere you go. If all everyone worried about was offending someone, nothing would be said. Personally, I enjoy when someone jumps on my case, cause I usually find out what kind of person they are. Not to...

    Accepting every load...

I think what it comes down to is following your gut. I think it's smart for a newbie to listen to the dispatcher and take every load, until they get the experience to determine which loads are profitable or not. But the problem comes when they think they need to lose money on some loads, because...

    Accepting every load...

All I can say, Rich and Ace, is BINGO! Every link in a load getting from a to b has a different agenda. Customer wants it there... period. Sometimes they can afford to shop, sometimes they can't. The company wants to cover as much freight as possible with as little hassles. That's why you get...

    Accepting every load...

No, Magic... no P2 here. Surprising you say that tho. If you drive for them, and only utilize their dispatchers, you're only giving yourself half the available business. They allow you to find your own loads, I suggest you do that if you get in a sit and wait mode again. They already dispatched...

    Dream Expedite Company

HAHAHAHA Moot... good one :) Unfortunately, most are roses and candy in orientation. It doesn't take long for reality to tear those fantasies apart. Usually it takes a couple weeks. It was the first load for you?
