You should be able to carry Sprinter loads at Sprinter rates. All loads are not Sprinter loads though. A lot will depend on your choice of carrier.

To fleet owners or company recruiters

I agree with most of what Bob says except the part quoted above. As a fleet owner with trucks leased to a carrier, everything quoted above does not apply. Bob, I think, does run his own authority so I understand that he is relating his experiences, but those experiences are quite different from...

We require you to have a minimum of $25,000 cargo insurance...

Seems like there would be a great sales tool/flyer in the making somewhere....for those doing it right. Pointing out the fact that a customer's freight WILL be insured properly?

You'll do well with C&M. Highway Star runs for them. Other than that, they are a great outfit! :D

We require you to have a minimum of $25,000 cargo insurance...

It will catch up sooner or later. I wouldn't want to be the guy with $25k in cargo insurance, transporting $90k worth of freight. I'm pretty sure that I would be liable for the shortage in the event of a claim.

wheel base / frame stretch questions

Just to add the box, I would just add frame to the original frame. I wouldnt worry about double frame after the axle. Don't forget that your also going to need a set of dolly legs with this setup. There are times in life when ya just got to realize that if you want to do a job, you need to be...

$25k sounds cheap to me too. $100k would seem more appropriate.

We require you to have a minimum of $25,000 cargo insurance...

In that case, I'm pretty sure that the contract/common carrier explanations have nothing to do with your operation. I have an opinion on who should provide the cargo insurance (you), but I have nothing to back that opinion up.

What kind of truck are you operating?

wheel base / frame stretch questions

Adding to the frame wouldn't cost too much...and you do need the frame to extend to the rear of whatever box you put on it. Any frame work other than that and your going to start getting in too deep in my opinion. I think that even a cheap frame stretch/axle move will cost $3k...even with you...

We require you to have a minimum of $25,000 cargo insurance...

I honestly don't think your understanding the "contract carrier" correctly. I believe that you are probably confusing "contract carrier" with "independent contractor". Most of us are "independent contractors", much, much different than having carrier authority of either kind. I believe that...

We require you to have a minimum of $25,000 cargo insurance...

The problem appears, to me anyway, to be whether or not the OP is leased to the carrier or operating on his own authority. I suspect he is doing the multiple carrier thing. In that case, who does carry the cargo insurance? I would think that it would be by far simpler for the o/o to carry it. Of...

wheel base / frame stretch questions

Is this a single axle or tandem? Either way, for what your describing.... I would measure from the back of the cab to the center of the axle (or center of the tandems). That #, which appears to be 12 ft? double that, then subtract 2' gives you 22'. Put a 22' box on it and forget the sleeper...

wheel base / frame stretch questions

There are a lot of variables to be considered. You'll need someone who knows how to calculate the wheelbase for your individual truck. You'll likely need somewhere between 280" - 310". I know that's a wide range but without knowing specifics, one "guess" is as good as another. If you know of...

Cargo van.....Sprinter....10,000 lbs gvwr or less.

    Oh crap!!!

My straight truck got hit 3 times in the last 18 months or so that I owned it. Left fender twice and left rear of the box once. You just can't be around the big trucks these days. I don't know if it's lack of training or just lack of attention. I suspect both though. How many times have you...

    2013 Ford Van Photos

Exactly, supply and demand will set the price eventually. I would expect that they will be over priced initially...and until they get an inventory on the lots. I also suspect that if they get it right and the van + any one of the 3 engine choices is a good setup, you'll see sprinter owners...

It would be laughable if the above price were correct.... not much more than replacing just the engine in a Sprinter?

    2013 Ford Van Photos

I'm pretty sure that anybody's guess is just that... a guess. One person has no better guess than the other. I couldn't care less what they price it at actually. That is Ford's job. If they get the price right, they might sell a few. If they over price it....just wait a while, the discounts will...
