    Where Are Rates Really?

1.25 plus fsc is the loaded rate. The DH is much less. Someone can chime in and give the exact number. I would be mindful that some pay less than that and zero on the dh.

    Where Are Rates Really?

Umm no. The Fed isn't paying 1.25 for deadhead

    Where Are Rates Really?

I see some headwinds as we have seen from years past. A lot of "moving parts". Election year to some degree, a economy at .05 growth this quarter is not stellar despite what some news outlets like to tell you. Yep, Over capacity coupled with increased operating costs and goofy regulations puts...

What things do you look for most in a Carrier?

Being a fleet owner, I look at it strictly from a business standpoint. No different than other ventures I am involved in. It is a total package. Transparency, consistently above industry revenue, and programs that enhance the drivers relationship with the carrier. In no particular order. If one...

    Where Are Rates Really?

If you look at a "average", I would say they is reflective of where the industry is currently at. Shockingly, a good number of carriers are well below that when I look at bid boards. Fortunately, we have been able to stay above those averages but are mindful of where the industry is really at.

    1 Million points question :)

For $200 what exactly are they processing? If they are providing plates or something I could see it. Outside of that, pretty much a no. And not quite getting the $50 to switch a driver. You would think they are already qualified with the carrier. As an outsider looking in, it looks like a cash...

    1 Million points question :)

It is true that many of the described items are in fact in their contract. And once again, "sins of the past", it is this very crap that puts a wedge between operators and carriers. $200 to change a driver in a truck. WTF? Carriers that operate in that fashion are a disgrace to the industry. I...

    Panther vs Fedex Expedite

There is a whole list of expedite carriers on the home page. As mentioned, who is a good fit would be better researched by calling them. Are you using their trailers or your own, will they let you broker your own freight, how are you insured, sign on bonuses, what they pay and don't. It is a...

A message to brokers and carriers.

Been preaching this for years. "sins of the past" are here. Most of the industry pain has been self inflicted. Too much greed and game playing has a way of doing that. Along of course with a steady diet of mostly foolish government regulations.

    Panther vs Fedex Expedite

Not enough information to answer that kind of question. With 70 trucks, you would be better served to contact them directly. Rates could very well be different for 70 trucks verses one.

I can tell you why rates are so low. Its not fuel.

I wouldn't read much into it. Years ago on straights it was "nothing over five years". See how well that went over. Carriers even had that requirement for a period of time, and then they realized it wasn't realistic to provide that to a customer and still skim large percentages off the top.

I can tell you why rates are so low. Its not fuel.

As I have posted probably well over ten years ago and several times since, "cash is king" in this business. Everyday is sitting in front of a big roulette wheel and giving it a spin. Expediting is so much fun. :D

I can tell you why rates are so low. Its not fuel.

It is that very reason that they run freight through a subsidiary or third party outfit that they own or control. Even when rates are "supposedly low", ever notice that many carriers, especially large ones are still raking in millions? Just follow the money. One of those "watch what they do, and...

I can tell you why rates are so low. Its not fuel.

I think it still comes down to the integrity of the carrier. I have seen percentage companies run it through a 3pl or subsidiary in order to skim a percentage off the top. Flat rate is fine as long as the rate is there. We do both and the flat rate is considerably higher than the percentage...

    MotorKote Lubricant

I would think synthetic or a blend would be better than any kind of additive. Since they have reformulated most oils, don't really see a need for additives unless the manufacture is calling for them.

    Uber trucking?

It could work but would require some type of vetting process for it to work correctly. I do agree a "free for all" would result in instant failure. Maybe something like Sylectus when it first started. Now it has evolved into a bunch of silliness.
