Have you cargo vanners tried hauling air freight?

Thanks Maverick and blizzard for the support. I think its a great gig. As far as trying to complicate figuring in things such as taxes and other crap, you can look at it another way....if I make a paltry 62.5 cents and can write off 55.5 cents then as far as the gov't is concerned I don't make...

Have you cargo vanners tried hauling air freight?

I'm not a rookie by any means. I've been doing this for over 9 years. Vans are a depreciating asset. A new one loses value the minute you drive it off the lot. I understand the cost of repairs and everything else about the expediting business. I don't like living in my van and hanging out in...

Have you cargo vanners tried hauling air freight?

My van has 285K miles, uses no oil, doesn't leak anything and gets about 16.5 mpg, cold air, and was just inspected by my mechanic after he put O2 sensors on it. You guys just sound so negative. Maybe I've been lucky but I like the way things are going. I paid less than $3500 for this van and...

Have you cargo vanners tried hauling air freight?

As a matter of fact I have $1M liability and $100K cargo that I pay for, the van is paid for, a couple of oil changes a month and very little repair costs. $2K / month for fuel, insurance and maintenance and gross about $6200 / month. That's pretty close to $1000 net / week.

Have you cargo vanners tried hauling air freight?

I average $1500 / week and after expenses I put about $1000 in my pocket, home most nights, and seldom work week-ends. I think it's a pretty good deal myself.

What do you make per mile staying out for weeks at a time? Isn't it about .75 / mi.?

Have you cargo vanners tried hauling air freight?

Yeah, it's loaded miles. I do prefer being home more than sleeping in my van. I'm 60 and I do this just to stay busy.

Have you cargo vanners tried hauling air freight?

I net about 70-73% of my gross pay and I'm not hanging out at a Flying hook waiting on a run. If I'm waiting on a run, it's in front of my big screen tv at home.

Have you cargo vanners tried hauling air freight?

I signed on with a couple of air freight companies in Atlanta and love it. I run a radius of 2-3 states surrounding GA I'm home most nights because I deadhead back home to pickup the next day. I make a minimum of $1.25 / mile and average $1200.00 to $1500.00 per week. I beats the pants off of...

Just got a ford e-150 van and now needs freight.

You don't need any of that gov't crap with a cargo van because you are under 10K lbs. All you need is 100K in cargo insurance and 100/300/50 truck insurance. I run with a courier co. in the ATL and have my own expedite customers. I drive a E-150 with LT tires like on a E-350 and beefed up leafs...

Sterling Courier out of Herndon, VA and Quick International are huge air freight companies that contract smaller companies in different cities to pick up and deliver their freght. Google them for phone numbers, etc. I know Quick has offices all over the country. By the way, for those who want...

van drivers....have you tried air freight?

yeh raceman, with a cargo van you dont need your own authority but i do run for a company that has authority. i dont know how much air freight there is out there but in ATL there are a ton of companies that specialize in it. there are a lot of straight trucks that pick it up but i dont know if...

van drivers....have you tried air freight?

Have any of you starving van drivers tried hauling air freight? I am an independent expediter (not leased to any one). Times got very slow here in ATL so I had to explore other opportunities. I hooked up with a courier company that does nothing but air freight. I am home most every night and I...

    how do you guys survive?

I use the term "struggling" in gest. I do pretty well for only working 3-4 days per week and spending only 5-6 nights per month away from home. My cost of operation is only about .30-.35 per mile (a little more when I pull the trailer). I want to get out of the expediting business but when you...

    how do you guys survive?

i deadhead less than 50%. most of the work i do is with the trailer. you guys get .77 and then either wait or have to deadhead, too. these guys i read about average $500 to $700 per week. is that gross or net after expenses (fuel, taxes, etc.) I talked to a guy from panther that deadheaded in a...

    how do you guys survive?

I don't see how you guys can survive on .77 / mile or whatever you make in a van. I work for myself, have about 5 small trucking companies I contract to and get $1.25 / mile for my van. I also have an 18' flatbed trailer that I pull for machines and A/C units. That pays me $1.50 / mile but if I...
