Panther seems to have a large Cargo Van fleet, enough freight for everyone?

I guess that new CEO has that supper deluxe Magic 8 ball if they are giving a date that it will get better. From a plan business prospective, the math doesn't really work that well with cargo vans. But because you can get in it cheap with limited experience I see it getting tighter and tighter.

Index Shows Trucking Capacity Tightened in December

It is all about source. My daughters ex once told me about something he found interesting (not sure what it was because I rarely listened to him) and at the end I learned it was from the Daily Show. That was his news source. Can still remember the poor kid leaving a tort class in tears when...

Index Shows Trucking Capacity Tightened in December

Yeah, if it is on the internet it has to be true. But I actually have several sources that are geared more towards the financial markets that never hit the internet unless the author is quoted in a business publication. Seems this year it is a mixed story. Having talked with people at some of...

    The Driver Shortage

Last year I was listening to a round table of trucking execs on driver shortage. None accepted that it was not all about driver pay. One kept saying they pay the highest rate (over $.45/mile with 3-years experience and drivers average over 2,700/mile per week) and they saw no decrease in turn...

Index Shows Trucking Capacity Tightened in December

We are seeing better rates in several regions for January and so far this month. Considering how strong the spring was last year and how weak January was I am optimistic about rates starting in March. It is also good when you start seeing different indexes saying the same thing.

    Panther Expedite Names New CEO

It's all alphabet soup. I feared they would try and move someone over from ABF. I have never been impressed with them and impressed with Panther.

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

You should have seen us towards the end. We didn't work out of our house, we lived in our office. When we moved states that was a non-starter. We where getting an office. PERIOD. I don't think it has any relevance to if a company small carrier is reputable or not. Heck, we got an...

    not all doom and gloom....:)

Had several conversations in the past week about this with management at Megas. One said they will loose on average 4.7 hours per week per truck and the other has it pegged 4.2 hours. Prospective on this - that is like losing 1 truck a week out of each 14 trucks. And that is not counting the...

Multiple Carrier Operation - Straight Trucks

Yes there are companies doing this but in terms of if it is legal like with a cargo van I can't see how. Maybe trip lease but that is another level of hassle in todays world of compliance. I would only consider it if they had their own authority and a very clean record. But then you are only...

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

I agree on the mailbox only part. I understand using a mailbox in terms of getting mail. But you have to be a detective to find a physical address on some of these people. If you are that worried about the business you are doing then something is wrong. Or do what I do. Get a 110 lb...

Due Diligence when choosing a carrier, especially for newbies

Lots of ways to look at something. We started in our house. $400 office rent turns into $600-$700 additional fixed expense plus lots of other expenses just to get started. In an office now but would have been wasted money back hen. Good balanced contract protects all parties. And you can...

    Question Regarding Whirlwind Express

Not only have I made statements, I have spoken to dozens of people personally. Not a hard person to find and I clearly don't hide behind a screen name and tell lies. Now, if anyone has specific questions feel free to contact me. You will notice no one has even made the hint that I won't take...

    Question Regarding Whirlwind Express

Really? Can't find a contract or load with your name on it. Or listed on the board. Do you run under a different name?

Best way to describe the relationship is they are an independent agent of Farm2Fleet.

Straight Truck Pay - % or mileage

Reputable companies will send you the rate confirmation invoice. I know all the skimming stories and these companies are a disgrace. Seems like there are more dirt bags in this industry than not. It is sad that cheating is the norm and honor is scoffed at.

HOS Changes Effective February 27, 2013

Based on what you just said this will not effect you. This is not removing the restart just some little changes AND not allow multiple in a week. Taking several and one in 6-weeks is hardly going to be a issue for you.

HOS Changes Effective February 27, 2013

Time to open you minds and look at this from a different prospective. You can run your business in a way that you never have to worry about the 34-hour restart and still make good money. What I have noticed is that those that this will not effect make better money than the ones that depend...
