Canada Hands Free Coming

The Ontario Govt has passed the law with regards to banning use of cell phones, texting and other handheld electronic devices while driving. Utilization of handsfree technologies with such devices is fine. GPS units must be mounted!
This goes into effect Oct 1/09 and there should be (supposedly) a 2-3 month grace period where the police will issue warnings rather than ticket.

So if visiting Ontario this fall remember to have hands free for your cell, mp3 player etc.

illinois has the same law. it is ignored there just like the 100k limit is in ontario.

The way things are going in these two countries I would NOT be surprised to see "Hands Free Driving" laws inacted. Then, when all the wrecks happen, outlaw cars.

yesterday in illinois i gave the "hang up" sign to a woman in the left lane(of two) on 41. she was under the limit chatting. i pulled into the citgo for fuel and she followed. she then pulled up to the air pump, walked around her car checking her tires and got back in and drove off all while still on the phone.

Keeping in mind I did get warning about a broken tail light as I was talking on the cell and my seatbelt wasn't on..and laptop was on the front seat! *LOL*

The most annoying thing to me in Ontario is the tailgaters . The maximum distance those drivers will stay behind you is 2 seconds . I'd seen it all when I saw an oversize load running 100 km/h down the 401 staying less than 2 seconds behind the OPP cruiser escorting it .

If they allowed shoulder driving then that would be plugged as well and with an accident as someone tried to get in without enough space or time. Only allow shoulder driving to go around an obstruction but not a vehicle making a turn (except if shoulder is paved).
Too many laws as Piper has pointed out so not hard to get confused or not remember. They say ignorance of the law is not an excuse but some municipalities pass 2000-3000 bylaws and such every year. Then the provincial/state govt passes more on top. How are we supposed to keep up?
